OP initiated the sequence of events with her cheapness and entitled attitude.

Scroll up a bit. The restaurant owner disagrees with you. A tip on takeout is appreciated, but not expected, and certainly not demanded.

I don't have to scroll up to know how to treat workers with kindness.

Well the staff at this restaurant didn’t treat OP with kindness, so maybe you still have some life lessons to learn.

No, the worker didn't respond with kindness. Most of us don't get that kind of response from restaurant employees because we treat them with kindness and respect and show our appreciation by tipping them for their service. You have an opportunity to do better in the coming new year!😊👍

Uhhh, no. No one is entitled to tips. And if you demand a tip, you are rude and should be fired. People like you are encouraging this ridiculous, entitled behavior. Congrats.

No one is entitled to a tip. And you can continue to act like a cheap jerk.

Tipping has nothing to do with being kind or being a jerk. You are paying for the quality of service. In this instance there was no service.

Oh, I thought someone prepared a to go order for the OP. Maybe she got her order from a vending machine?

No, OP tried to use a gift card. The employee’s first concern was what about a tip. The employee was wrong and should be separated from the employer. And if OP doesn’t get an apology, OP should detail the experience in a Yelp review to warn others.

No, the OP used a gift card and did not intend to leave a tip.

Which is entirely appropriate and keeping with norms for tipping culture. Don’t flip over the iPad and start tipping suggestions at 25%. Just, no. You are doing your job to package my food that I drove to collect. You didn’t serve me for half an hour or whatever. And you don’t make a tipped wage.

/\/\ the Ebenezer Scrooge Award goes to you and OP.

+1 yep

I’m sorry that you are stuck working menial jobs, but your entitlement for tips when you make a decent wage is absurd. If you think you are underpaid, take it up with your employer. Tipping is for people who provide a service and are paid a reduced wage in anticipation of tips. That isn’t a chef, hostess or manager at a restaurant. And we don’t have a relationship of any kind when I pick up my food. I make no apologies for this — you can stomp your feed and call me names all you want. You are just wrong and look ridiculous.

I am a generous tipper where it is appropriate.

LOL!! We know you are!!🤣

The people who prepared the order are not tipped workers. How gullible are you? Even if a wait staff did someone a favor and carried this from the kitchen to the hostess stand it took 20 seconds.

As has been explained to you multiple times, whoever prepared the to go order is either well-paid or salaried. And performing tasks within your job description is not something that rises to being deserving of a tip for exceptional service.

Again, as was explained to you, salaried employees include general managers, managers, chefs. Other positions pay $15 or more. Tipped employees earn $2.13 per hour. That is wait staff. They’re not the ones preparing your takeout order because they are serving diners who should, in fact, tip them.

I’m trying to figure out if you are astronomically stupid or being deliberately obtuse.

You keep trying to justify your cheapness. We get it. Have a blessed 2023! (And be sure to watch one of the Ebenezer Scrooge movies. You might learn a thing or two.)

I never know what to do anymore. Leaving 15-25 percent seems incorrect since I didn’t dine in and get an hour of service. But not tipping also feels wrong. How does 5-10 dollars on takeout and $1 at Starbucks sound?

You really suck at this trolling thing. At least vary your idiotic attempt at insulting me. Dumbass.

It sounds wrong. Don’t be part of the problem and grow a spine.

Over tippers are total try hards who grew up poor. They are now compelled to make sure everyone knows they aren’t poor anymore and even the teenage cashier makes them feel insecure 🤷

I’m sure this has already been pointed out, but servers and bartenders (who are tipped employees) give the food runners, bussers, and sometimes hostesses a % of their tips based on food sales. When you don’t tip on takeout, you are taking money out of their pockets.
