Dear MCPS Community,

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will continue to assess the impact of the power outage on school system operations. We will have an announcement later this evening. Currently, more than 44 schools and 6 central office facilities are without power, affecting several key services such as maintenance, buses and food services.

How could they have an announcement later this evening? I predict they will announce a closure prematurely tonight and the power will be on by 5 am. I expect nothing less.

I expect them to announce closing at 5 am, just like they always do on snow days.

And power will be out for much longer, unfortunately. That idiot on the plane did some serious damage.

The text seemed to indicate an announcement tonight.

why on earth would the number of delayed flight have any bearing on school closures???

No subs to cover teachers stuck while traveling.

Call it already. I’m fine with one extra day off.
The uncertainty is maddening

The question then is how they define "widespread" and whether there will still be outages tomorrow morning.

85,000 outages represents about 25% of Pepco customers in MoCo.

That includes businesses.

The pepco live outage website says 888k customers served.

Have they taken the people and the plane out of the tower? I figure no restoration can happen until that occurs.

No, and this will be a multi-day operation moving that plane. It’s gonna be a while before they get out tonight.

Pepco is hoping to ground residual electric in tower by 1:30am. That’s a wrap for tomorrow. How late before they call it..it’s almost midnight already…there’s not much “later” left in “later this evening.”
