Thoughts on Rives or Sutton for APS SB?

Anonymous
+1 for Rives. Sorry, all other things aside, I'm over the nonsense that has happened with the current SB and their ridiculousness.

If you seriously believe the lie that public schools are teaching CRT, then you were never going to vote for a Democratic candidate for school board.

By the way, it’s the right-wing media that’s whipped up distractions about CRT, trans kids, and the like. The rest of us are busy trying to improve our schools and make them better at serving their students.

Oh, like the non-APS parent neighbors replacing their Biden signs with deFerranti signs to fit in nicely with their "in this house we...." and "there is no room for...." and "yes to upzoning without a plan" signs also voting for Sutton for SB because she's the Democrat-endorsee?

I’m going to vote for Rivas although I don’t agree with him on SROs. He’s not going to win though because most ppl in Arlington vote straight down the party line. I don’t understand why Arlington democrats endorse someone for the school board when it’s supposed to be a non-partisan position.

Who has seen a Biden sign since 2020?

That's it - distract from the point.
Nevertheless, I do still see them around.

Bethany is exactly the candidate APS and the Dem caucus love - don’t ask hard questions, don’t pay attention to the important issues, don’t rock the the boat. Talk about equity a lot - don’t do anything that actually impacts it.

On the one hand, CRT and Trans are fake issues that right wing media has whipped up.

On the other hand, only Sutton can save our trans kids.

Which is it?

In general I’m fairly anti- ACdc candidates and have a lot of concerns about the endorsement process. I do like Bethany however. She has put in a ton of time to aps, both at Randolph and also on advisory committees. I do think she is running for school board bc she cares about education, not to further a political agenda or career.

There were lots of candidates who would have been fine for trans kids. I wish Sutton had turned down the ADC endorsement, because I would like party politics out of the SB race. But at this point, she's the only one who's running to look out for all kids, so she's who I'm voting for.

Giving trans kids an inclusive, nurturing environment and protecting them from anti-trans policies from Richmond is a real issue.

Panicking over fake stories about litterboxes is not.

See the differences?

Are we allowed to be concerned over real stories of APS employees forging parental
consent or is that more right wing manufacturing? Trans kids deserve to be treated with respect, use the bathroom of their choice, go by preferred name name and pronouns, but schools can’t be in the business of hiding info from parents and protecting employees who break the law. See the difference? I hope Bethany doesn’t endorse hiding info from parents.

While this is a non-partisan race, only one party is politicizing those issues, and it isn't the Democrats.

This just isn’t true. It is absolutely the democrats who talk endlessly about “equity” (as a catch-all phrase) and securing the right of trans kids, making sure you’re using the right pronouns, and on and on. Republicans are not alone in politicizing these issues. Both sides need to stop the rhetoric and focus on academics.

Agree!!! Let's focus on the basics. How well is APS teaching kids and preparing them for college and jobs.
