This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. |
Nobody wants Retrocession dummy |
He wasn't...a fluke would be serving 1 term and getting boat raced in 2018. |
This too, Baltimore, PG and MoCo would lose out in this scenario. |
Yup. More important, Baltimore, PG and MoCo politicians would lose out and that’s why it will never happen. |
Poor babies. |
I understand why retrocession was a nonstarter in the past when absorbing DC would have been a net cost to Maryland. DC is wealthier now and Maryland might be interested in that extra revenue. Retrocession also would strengthen the eastern side of Potomac’s position economically. DC and the Maryland burbs will continue to fall behind Va, but the story could be different if DC was part of Maryland. Retrocession is a loser politically. Two extra senators would be a huge prize to the democrats nationwide and I doubt they’d give up that possibility. |
| People ignoring political realities trying to make fetch happen. |
Not even close. You would need an amendment. People who think otherwise are nuts. |
| Lol. Pass. |
Debatable. Do you say “you’re nuts” in an actual debate? |
Is it Constitutional for the federal district to be reduced in size and the residential and commercial portions of DC to become a State? Yes. Article I. Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution sets only a maximum size (“…not exceeding ten Miles square…”) for the federal “Seat of the Government of the United States”. Congress has the authority to redefine the borders of the federal district. Congress did so, for instance, in 1846 when a portion of the original territory of the District of Columbia west of the Potomac River was retroceded to Virginia. Dc.gov |

Hmmm what about a compromise?
DC gets added, 3 EVs and 3 Dems added to congress and we give a Red state 6 extra seats in the house or just disperse them among red states? Seems equal to me to counter act DC. |
| NP. Surprised Repubs don't want to add PR, it'd be a purple state, they've elected republicans territory wide before. |
Charlie Baker in Massachusetts is not a fluke. Out of the last 31 years there have only been eight with a democratic govenor. Thats 23 vs 8. Since 1939 -- Dems have held the govenor position only 32 out of 83 years. 51 vs 32. Speak of what you know. Hogan is also not a fluke. Anyone with his profile and positions could win in Maryland every year. |
