Best logistically easy Ski Resort in Italy (from IAD)?

bumping this thread looking for hotel recommendations for either Chamonix or Courmayeur close to slopes for a ski holiday.

Cortina and you can take a shuttle bus. Cortina is fabulous. Super walkable with a lot of delicious restaurants and boutiques and the most amazing pastries and coffee for breakfast. The hotels are amazing. We stayed across the street from a 5 star hotel in an chalet apartment type deal but we could access the hotel's incredible spa with heated indoor pool and 5 different sauna rooms with a day pass. Incredible. I also adore Venice in the winter. It is magical when it is snowing and not crowded at all.

In Courmayeur, Le Massif is the nicest hotel. Courmayeur town is lower than the slopes (there is a run down when the conditions are right) so you need to take a gondola to the starting point. At Le Massif, they also have a restaurant and place that guests can keep their skis/boots at the top of the gondola so you aren’t walking through town in ski boots.
If you don’t stay at Le Massif, look for a hotel in the Dolonne part of town because that should be near the bubble lift which is more efficient than the gondola.
It is a gorgeous place to ski - you’ll have a great time! It is pretty small though, so if you’re going for a longer period you might want to combine with somewhere else. It’s very doable to drive to Chamonix or to another nearby Italian resort (like La Thuile or Pila) for the day - and by drive, I mean get a taxi!

Fly to Munich and go to Austria Zell am See is beautiful if you aren’t hardcore skiers.

What are you talking about???? Of course there is a connection between less and less snow in the ski resorts and global warming. There are enough studies on this. Just idiots pay $$$$ for skiing on artificial ski slopes through green mountain valleys (and more and more there is not even artificial snow, I live in Europe and know the problems of ski destinations. Some have closed forever).

Zell am See is not in Italy which the OP seemed to be quite specific about (even if it was a couple of years ago). But agree that Zell am See is a fun destination and and easy drive from Munich. Cute town and the Kitzsteinhorn has pretty reliable snow even in low snow years.

4 hrs to Austria doesn't seem so logistically easy

I go to Madonna di Campiglio, about 50 miles west of Trento, because we have a family apt there. We try to fly direct in the winter to avoid being stuck mid way and normally do newark- milan (we take the train to newark) and then rent a car, it’s about 3.5 hours. Or direct flight Dulles Munich, then either rented car or train straight to trento e then bus (this is long because train is about 4 hrs and bus almost 2). Once i considered a direct flight philadelphia venice and then train to Trento, which is only about 2 hours. But overall renting a car is more convenient if you dont mind getting there with no sleep and drive on mountain roads.

Probably flying to Torino or even Milano Malpensa and then driving to Val D’Aosta (Courmayeur or Cervinia) may be shorter.

We are thinking of going to Cervinia for a few days over Spring break but thought we might try to combine a few days of skiing with other activities. Any suggestions for where to check out near Cervinia (perhaps for a day or 2)? Zermatt is on the list and we could just stay there for the extra 1-2 days or perhaps Verbier? We are flying into and out of Milan.

You can just go to Zermatt for the day from Cervinia (using the lifts) but it’s actually not very convenient to travel there by road from Cervinia. What sort of other activities did you have in mind? You could easily take the train from Milan to somewhere else in Italy where there would be more to do and see than in Zermatt or Verbier which are really just ski towns (though pretty ones!)

were they textile or nude? I know I know - its europe but in a very crowded sauna, crawling over naked peopl is just not fun for me.

? saunas in our hotel in Cortina end elsewhere were private for our group of 4. No crawling involved
