Emmeline (Emme-lean) was on our list too, and I adore the name Ivy, so you can’t go wrong here OP. I wouldn’t carastrophize about pronunciation it is not the end of the world to correct someone.

I’ve always heard it pronounced Emme-LINE (I’ve met a couple Emmelines and Adelines and they all pronounced it with a long I sound). If you plan to pronounce it differently I think that would lead to a lot of correcting down the road.

Hunh. I would have thought it was Emma-line.

Go with Emmelene and your kid will not hate you.

I really like Ivy. I find Emmeline very confusing.

I don’t know how Emme is pronounced.

I like Ivy.

I also love Elodie which is suggested above, and would add Iris.

As far as I know, "Emme" is pronounced just like the letter, M. But who knows. "Emme" is not a phonetic spelling.

So Emme - LEAN is a two syllable name like Emlean?

Wouldn’t Em be the obvious spelling if you’re trying to spell it phonetically?

If we still don't know what the pronunciation is on a four-page thread discussing the name, that's a problem.

Uh, why is this relevant? That’s a totally different name.

I take it you haven’t spent time with groups of elementary school kids who play rhyming games with each other’s names. It will come up even if the child pronounces her name with the long e ending.
