I can't help but think none of this really matters. He should have to pay back all the $ to the state as a fine, but it makes no sense to stick him in jail. Who exactly did he hurt?

He hurt all the GT applicants who would have been admitted if not for those stolen seats secured through bribes.

How could you ever show that someone wasn't admitted because of these bribes? How did it hurt them, in a way that could be compensated in a court of law. Putting this guy in jail is a terrible waste of taxpayer $$.

People should not be punished with jail time unless you can point to a specific victim? That's a very odd system of justice.

Right. How about deterrence value, which is huge for white collar cases. Rich folks are terrified of jail.

It was a waste of time and resources. These parents wrote checks to get their kids into a college. Other parents write larger checks to colleges and their kids get in. One set gets prosecuted the other set gets building named after them.

And another set misunderstands the facts of the case completely!

Who knows, maybe these parents genuinely thought they were making donations to a worthy cause. It was all a misunderstanding caused by zealous DAs.

First, they are AUSAs not DAs because this is a federal case, not state.

Second, it’s a criminal case, so high standard of proof required. They have many of these folks on tape with Singer discussing the illegality, etc. I would imagine the ones that were not charged were not because they did not have specific evidence showing illegal intent.

Nope. All whites are the same. Asians are the only worthy applicants.

Wasn’t the family that bought the house for the fencing coach Asian?

This kid didn’t even need this though. He was a top ranked fencer and academically very strong

+1. These schools all came out of this looking like victims when really they are the start of the problem.
