"A former Georgetown University tennis coach who once coached former President Barack Obama's family was sentenced Friday to 2 1/2 years in prison for pocketing more than $3 million in bribes in exchange for helping wealthy parents cheat their kids' way into the school.
The sentence for Gordon Ernst is by far the toughest punishment handed down so far in the sprawling college admissions bribery scandal that shined a light on the lengths some rich parents will go to get their kids into the nation's most selective schools. Prosecutors had sought four years behind bars for Ernst, 55, who admitted to accepting nearly $3.5 million in bribes over a decade to designate the children of deep-pocketed parents as recruits even though they weren't Georgetown-caliber players. Ernst told the judge in Boston's federal court that he lost his moral compass and acted out of line with what he taught his own players about making the right choices." https://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2022-07-01/ex-georgetown-coach-gets-2-1-2-years-in-bribe-scandal |

Wow. The parents got 11 days to 3 months and he got 2.5 years?!
They must have charged him for parental fraud as a separate count. |
Every parental fraud I meant.
|
|
He got a longer sentence because he pocketed the money. Other coaches used it for the sports program (except maybe the Harvard fencing coach who got a house).
Also, the parents were invoked in one bribe. He was involved in many. The whole thing is disgusting. |
| What a waste of time. |

Whites have legacy, connections, donations and the "side-door";
blacks and Hispanics have affirmative action; Asians get the shaft. |
| Good. They have to set an example. |
+1 |
| Good |
Not a broad enough skill set. |
That was the point but they lacked the skills to impose a significant sentence on anyone who could really afford a defense. Best and brightest just don't go AUSA anymore. |
Yup. |
Wasn’t the family that bought the house for the fencing coach Asian? |

To be transparent, I am the same poster in the last two posts (don’t want to be accused of sock puppeting). I wanted to make sure I was right and looked it up. |
