That was the point but they lacked the skills to impose a significant sentence on anyone who could really afford a defense. Best and brightest just don't go AUSA anymore.

I’m not sure it’s skills. I suspect it has more to do with the way courts treat sentencing. Admittedly, I have not be following closely.

AUSA jobs are very competitive and most are very highly qualified.

Wasn’t the family that bought the house for the fencing coach Asian?

Yes 1 case out of some 70 cases was Asian. Rest were white parents.

Normally, I would not be so petty, but your smug attitude is really annoying me.

Xioning Sui also sounds like an Asian name, so at least 2. The whole list of people involved is not public, so I’m not sure we know how many people of what race and ethnicity are involved. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_college_admissions_bribery_scandal#Discovery_and_charges

It looks like several with Latino last names and Middle Eastern last names. Sounds like it was a wide variety of over privileged cheaters of various races/ethnicities. I know it does not feed into your Asian superiority/victim narrative, though.

So roughly about 5-7% non-whites and about 94% white parents. Many Hispanics and people from the Middle East are classified as Caucasians so under that scenario, 97.2 % whites. Happy now?

Wait, did those kids graduate from Harvard - they were actually allowed to stay??

The common thread is that the people involved ALL tried to utilize plausible deniability in their intricate laundering - which did not work - GOOD!

All the kids (probably a hundred or more since many had more than 1 kid involved) graduated. I am not aware of any kid being expelled or having to return their degree.

Affirmative action helps all marginalized minorities.

Legacy, connections, donations, etc. are few and far between.

Plenty of groups other than asians have an uphill battle.

How many kids did he get into Georgetown for 3.5 million? That is a lot of $$. I'm shocked a parent would even pay a bribe for Georgetown. I can't help but think none of this really matters. He should have to pay back all the $ to the state as a fine, but it makes no sense to stick him in jail. Who exactly did he hurt?

Affirmative action certainly does not help Asian Americans (the most vulnerable minority group in the US) and which group has such an uphill battle other than Asian Americans in the college admissions process?

He hurt all the GT applicants who would have been admitted if not for those stolen seats secured through bribes.

PP trying to say no one wants to go to Georgetown, ye this thread is exactly about how much people would pay to get close to Georgetown.

How could you ever show that someone wasn't admitted because of these bribes? How did it hurt them, in a way that could be compensated in a court of law. Putting this guy in jail is a terrible waste of taxpayer $$.

People should not be punished with jail time unless you can point to a specific victim? That's a very odd system of justice.
