They are… when it’s convenient for them. |
I'm no spring chicken but I know lots of comedy that isn't offensive and I'm a certified Leftie. My fav modern comedians: Hannah Gadsby Bo Burnham Phoebe Robinson/Two Dope Queens The McElroys James Acaster New comedy podcast that I LOVE: Three Bean Salad Naomi Ekperigin Please stop parroting stupid stuff that stupid people say. |
Bo Burnham makes fun of a lot of people. You just agree with him which is why it’s not offensive. |
And he addressed it and is trying to do better. |
| Making fun of like laughing together fun or outright mean comments while pretending they are just for fun is very different. It depends on the friendship. My best friends and I laugh about stuff we do but we never aim a judgmental barb at each other or our kids. That’s off limits and not funny at all. |
Yes, this kind is a lot of fun. Especially if something is witnessed by everyone and we couldn't react in the moment. Look back laughs. Making fun behind someone's back is what all the other PPs said, immaturity, insecurity and general @ssholishness. |
But don’t you realize that your selfish fun is always at someone else’s expense? |

It is so context dependent but I can think of a million examples.
A little person who only dates tall. That’s funny. A person who has a white party but it’s a bbq. White parties are pretentious- you aren’t P Diddy, and white at a BBQ is a disaster waiting to happen. A person who has yellow hair but wants it blue. Dies it with blue dye at home and ends up with green hair because they don’t know color theory and they are cheap. Then if they get sunburned they look like a human radish and should be called radish for the rest of their lives. People are funny, we all do silly, stupid and counterintuitive things. It’s funny. Now you shouldn’t laugh at a little person Because they are little or at a person who has a good accident at a BBQ (unless they chose to wear white to a BBQ because, come on) or a person with different colored hair. The human condition is hilarious. |

^ I fell recently on a family trip. After they knew I was ok, my family laughed at me because it is funny when people fall and I kind of fell in slow motion and then made a classic old lady sound while doing it which is hilarious. If I had been injured they would have gotten me treatment and THEN we would have laughed at it. I was mostly bummed no one got it on video. We’re all gonna die. Lighten up.

Frankly I think the younger generation is going to look back on their unattractive earnestness and grimace. |
Falling down is always funny and I expect people to laugh, especially when I fall off my horse or my bicycle. I don't consider this to be making fun of somebody, though. Making fun is inherently cruel. Like, "Look at Tom! He's got a huge zit and he's so poor!". When you know that he's sensitive about those things. |
That’s why OPs question is poorly worded. Whether making fun of people is ok is entirely context dependent. |
He has been VERY offensive in the past! |
Disagree. It is never OK! We need to craft a more kind, fair, and equitable future for our children (and grandchildren). |
