Should we let republicans run local DC government as an experiment?

Hogan has bent rules and priorities to specifically benefit properties he owns, while serving as Governor. This is not a model to praise.

Anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller?

NYC was set straight under Rs. Sure, Guilliani is an insane person now but Michael Bloomberg also was an R mayor. Probably the safest and best city in the country. They generally avoid some mayors and politicians at the city level.

Lol you found the only city run by a Republican.

Not many can do that! Congrats.

Your Ft. Worth Tx post was deleted because your numbers were incorrect by ~50%

Look at Gov Charlie Baker in Massachusetts. Lots of Dems like him.

There are lots of wealthy people here who would like lower taxes and some who would be open to a little variety on the council. Give us statehood and then try to earn the votes versus just blocking people’s right to representation. I voted for Schwarz and Catania over the years.

Exactly. Cut the fluff and the fat in the DC budget. I wonder how much the DC government spends on crony consulting contracts with folks running their “firms” out of their bedrooms in PG County?!

Carol Schwartz ran for mayor 5 times. Catania once. Neither won, ever.

Get out of ward 3 for a while. DC doesn't want republicans.

This is the dumbest thread I've ever seen on DCUM. And, that bar was already pretty low.

Oh I see the issue. It was 400+ homicides in DC and 3 surrounding counties.

DC was 227 homicides in 2021 which is still almost double Ft Worth's 118.

Ft. Worth has significantly less people living there than DC.

Gotcha still failed.

Like who, Hogan?

He's a guy who many bring up as a sane, "moderate" Republican, and even he has no business touching DC with a ten-foot pole.

Larry Hogan, along with Charlie Baker in MA, are two moderate Republican governors in Democratic states that are consistently ranked among the most popular nationally. We could do a lot worse than Larry Hogan.

Talk about damning with faint praise.

Hogan truly is nothing special, he just looks the part when comparing him to other Republican governors. In kowtowing to his rural base, he put the kibosh on a much-needed transit line in Baltimore and hit the pause button on the Purple Line, unnecessarily causing years of delays and costing the state billions; I'd call him a penny wise, pound foolish Republican, but that would just be redundant.

The guy has such a miniscule backbone that he wrote in Ronald Reagan in 2020. Wow, such a pragmatic moderate! Pathetic.

A lot of people in the middle with the Hogan's , Romney's, tony Williams (wish I could think of some women's names as well). And we need people in the middle.in DC city council. Cannot believe it just keeps moving further left, but because I'm registered indepedent I can't vote in the run up ugh and the extreme candidates are who make it to the finish line. I wish we could look at our voting procedures too. Lots of people holding their noses with both parties right now

Register to vote in the Democratic primary. You can always switch immediately after the primary.

This whole “but I’m a free-thinking InDepEnDeNT” is the dumbest self-own ever. Why deny yourself the chance to help shape the final candidates in the general election? There were definitely more moderate Democrats running in the Council primaries in DC.

I’ve told my Republican friends in DC to do the same, but their (white) identity is tied to being a “Republican.” Dummies.

Can’t imagine a worse idea. Your really want a party that supports Don Trump to run DC? The party is a pox on America.
Anonymous
Ill vote for a Republican when they support some form of meaningful gun control. Until then, I don't want to hear a peep from them about better ways to control urban violence.

We already had that for 150 years. Try not to be so racist.
