I am the above PP. My child has been accepted! Thanks to this forum! It was a long shot but they tested her and found ready. |
Is it the 6th grade Sol or the 7th grade SOL that is required? |
You have to take and pass advanced the 7th grade SOL in 6th grade in order to take Algebra in 7th grade. Parents on this board most likely have kids in Advanced Math or AAP and so their 6th graders are taking the 7th grade SOL. |
My child is in the same situation as described above so can you please let me know what is the process or long shot or what is test to found her ready to take algebra 1 in grade 7. |
It will be based on the school. Some schools will allow more students in if they need to fill the seats to make a full class or two. |
Thanks! But does anyone know what was the test being referred here to get accepted when appealed for algebra honors |
The only tests that matter are the SOL and IAAT |
Iowa matters more than SOL |
I wish I had known this. My current 7th grader who is taking Math 7HN this year is so bored in math. But didn’t qualify for Algebra based on IAAT score. |
You can always do enrichment, like the AoPS prealgebra book or RSM if you have more time |
This is the same spot didn’t make Iowa cut off so could you please explain what type of test middle school has tested to found ready and got accepted. |
There is no test in middle school. You either pass both the tests in 6th or you don’t. The two tests are the SOL and IAAT/Iowa. |
I think they're asking because a PP said that "they tested her and found (him/her) ready". As far as I know, there is no further testing, as decisions on math placement are made over the summer. PP, if you have a child with a high SOL score but below cutoff IAAT, appeal to the MS. Chances are good they'll make it. I have posted here before that DD's MS took kids that missed the cutoff for IAAT, SOL, or both, into Algebra I. They even have one kid that missed both cutoffs by a large margin in Algebra I. |
Thank you for the reply. |
What would be needed to take algebra in 6th grade? |
