He has become exponentially more popular since this thread was originally posted, interestingly. Canada is looking at putting a draconian anti-free speech law into place that might as well be called the “Stop Peterson from Speaking” law as it seems almost personally targeted at him. (The proposed bill is C-63 if you want to read about it.)

People in Canada view him as speaking truth to power, including former Trudeau supporters. I don’t think you realize how deeply and profoundly unpopular the extremist progressive positions have become in Canada (I am Canadian).

So yes the tweet you linked is dumb. But Peterson himself is rising meteorically and I suspect he’s just posting that to get a rise out of people.

He’s popular but he’s a moron. His arguments always make leaps in logic that even the most basic philosophy student can spot. He’s popular only with the incel “community”.

I assure you he has enormous popularity in Canada outside of the incel community. He is seen as one of the few who can speak truth to power, which is a terribly sad statement to make, but it’s the truth.

I don’t get the hate for Petersen and Joe Rogan. Most of their stuff is innocuous and fine. They have some bad wild takes from time to time; but they are nothing like vile misogynists like Andrew Tate.

Petersen makes illogical leaps in his arguments. He is a very unsophisticated thinker, which is probably why he is popular. I don’t know enough about Rogan to speak about him. Petersen is “academic Tate”.

Both Rogan and Peterson are more mainstream than Tate, and have widespread appeal. Trying to classify them as similar to Tate is the sort of performative progressivism that just increases their popularity.
