Portland, Washington? Thanks for the laff.

Here’s your tip: 1) Call Brett Allen of the Chamber of Commerce and ask him if on May 11 he wrote that the forum video would be posted. Report back his answer — verbatim — here. 2) Ask any of the council candidates that were in attendance at the forum what Goulet said. Frumin spoke directly after Goulet. Monash spoke after that. I think Brown too, but I don’t remember that too well. Everyone who spoke after Goulet called him out for his comments. Do I have to write the story too? |
I watched the forom. The PP is accurate in their description Frumin called out Goulet for his comments and then Monash and Brown ripped him a new one. |
Lenient progressive approach to rising crime. Check. Progressive taxation: check Super liberal city council: check. Base of urbanites into walkability and density: check. What did I say that was wrong? Portland is a beautiful city, and obviously demographically much different, but our political structures are somewhat akin. Anyway, dc fking sucks at handling crime and basically blames gentrifiers for being in the wrong place. It’s the same in Portland. Woke at any cost. |
Sounds like you're describing Portland, Oregon. PP was talking about Portland, Washington. |

Yo,
Let's stop allowing this thread to be derailed by references to Trayyon White and Portland (Oregon or Washington). Has anybody called the Chamber of Commerce? Has anybody tweeted at the candidates? |
LOL! |
Maybe you should write the story. Why are you asking others to do it? Maybe you should change your lure if the fish aren’t biting. |
Trish Duncan has the Palisades locked up in the race for DC Council! That's her fortress-base. |

Nothing to see here. Nope, let's keep pretending he is not who we know he is.

| On Friday (20th) evening, the head of the “Save Hardy Park” campaign will be hosting a meet and greet for Goulet. The Save Hardy Park campaign is closely intertwined with the Foxhall Community Citizens Association, who have done and said some interesting things over the years with respect to proposals to open public schools in their neighborhood. While supporting the expansion of private (and predominantly white) schools, the Association opposed - and arguably thwarted via securing a historic designation - a proposal to repurpose a city-owned building in their neighborhood currently occupied by a private school to create a new public elementary school. Their current President, Bob Avery, went on record at the ANC as saying that the use of that building as a public school would not be good for the neighborhood. When the lease on that building was renewed and the city proposed instead to build a new school nearby, the Association then gave rise to the deceptive “Save Hardy Park” campaign which has attempted to whip up opposition with specious claims about the loss of park space, parking, traffic and so on. Anyone is free to attend Goulet’s meet and greet with these folks. The discussion, we can imagine, should be quite illuminating. |

Is this thread just manufactured outrage? Read the City Paper article. He basically regurgitated Federal statistics on voucher holders and then noted there have been issues with the homeless voucher holders that have been moved into Ward three apartment buildings.
And if you read this article, maybe concerns over housing homeless people isn’t that overblown: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/dc-housed-the-homeless-in-upscale-apartments-it-hasnt-gone-as-planned/2019/04/16/60c8ab9c-5648-11e9-8ef3-fbd41a2ce4d5_story.html Basically this entire thread feels like a campaign by some staffer for an opposing candidate to drum up drama and outrage. It’s good politics, but really it all seems overblown. These comments are not racist, at least looking at this from a high level, and it seems like a bunch of bs to find some scandal prior to election time. People can quote legitimate statistics and they can voice and address concerns without being racist. |
