No they don't. Your lazy inertia does |
A fix implies there was an actual problem which is not the case the OP has an opinion and wants a change because it would be more convenient for them. |
Again idiot, I can see how biology is not something you can get a grasp of. Teens have a different natural sleep pattern. I know that is inconvenient for you. |
+1. Other states do this and it would improve school performance. It’s natural for teens to sleep later, it’s necessary to their health and growth. This has been studies and proven and why many states implemented schools beginning later. |
Exactly. How is a huge state like CA able to do it across the entire state but MCPS just throws up its hands and says impossible. That is pathetic. If this is the mindset here, no wonder MCPS schools are getting worse. |
| How does one propose to get mcps to reconsider? It would need to be brought up collectively by parents. But it that done? |
Where did MCPS said it was impossible? |
I’m the the poster who wrote that mcps said that. However, they didn’t make the change so… |
LOL. HS start-times "NEED to be change"? Says who? DCUM warriors? Man, the arrogance and the entitlement mentality of DCUM karens are incredible. |
Did you read any of the links? Why speak when you have no clue? There is a huge body of research that says that teens need at least 9 hours of sleep because of all the brain growth and reorganisation happening at this age range and that their biological clock shifts so they are primed to feel sleepy later at night and get up later in the morning. It turns out teenagers are not mini adults. Most states and private schools have acknowledged this research and have made changes. MCPS as usual has its collective head stuck in the sand. Lack of sleep is one reason mental health experts say we are seeing so many mental health issues in teenagers. ADD symptoms also get worse with lack of sleep |
This is correct. A teen’s natural circadian clock shifts and it is difficult for them to fall asleep earlier than 11 pm and they need at least 9 hours of sleep. |
Read about teen’s circadian clock schedule. You are entitled and arrogant. The Karen thing is past it’s prime idiot. |

Everyone who is proposing "one simple answer" to this problem really needs to read the bell times study from a few years ago and address the barriers in that document.
If you have "one simple fix" that simultaneously moves HS bell times later AND addresses the logistical/financial challenges laid out in the report, please bring it to the school board. |
I wouldn’t know how to do that but if someone could I would support it. |
Pardon? Do you need more sleep yourself? |
