But I can make that at home at not pay $18 for a pie that feeds one hungry person. I personally do not even think of anything in this area as pizza. Most of it is characterized by too thick crust and gobs of cheese and ketchup style sauce to make up for the poor quality ingredients.

I am also from NYC. The best NY style pizza I have found in this area is from Andy's or Slice Joint, two places that haven't yet been mentioned. I also like Wiseguys, but it's not quite as NY style (a little thicker) but still good.

Another +1 for Andys (in Tysons Galleria) and Tonys NY pizza - former NYer

In MoCo I think DaMarco is hood for neapolitan and Corner Slice is good for NY style, and Vace is good for a compromise in between.

The consensus favorite in my family is Colony Grill in Arlington. We all have other favorites too, but we don't agree on those! I'm a big fan of Pupatella (two locations in Arlington). The Italian Store is also very good, but I tend to get a sandwich when I'm there, so I don't often get their pizza.

I have not tried it yet, but several people have I know have recommended Badd Pizza in McLean.

The owners are from the old country, and crotchety, but all their food is legit delicious.

As someone who likes good, plain cheese pizza, I was surprised how good the pizza was at Santini’s, in VA. They have multiple locations, so may be in MD as well.

I’m from the NY suburbs too and feel your pain. That said, I really like Mama Lucia in northwest DC. Thin tasty crust that you can fold and hold in one hand bit the narrow end of the slice doesn’t droop. Not overly cheesed or too greasy. Give it a try and let us know your verdict.

Don’t bother with bad. It’s not NY style at all.

Andy’s pizza in the nice Tyson’s mall (can’t remember if it’s I or II) is legit very good. I grew up in the northeast and think most pizza in this area is awful.

You like a regional style…that’s not the best. It’s one type.
