| Buffet went to Wilson however |
| Well, better build that generational wealth then. |

Interesting that the people who pulled themselves out of poverty are in the arts. Most tech entrepreneurs have the same backgrounds as their investment bankers and attended private schools. Makes sense that they got the financing. |
| I think self-selecting to be in a group of people with shared values (academics, athletics, etc.) also is a strong influence. There’s plenty of studies about academic outcomes and how they change depending on peer groups. Really no different than finding the right pyramid, just with (wait for it) more exclusivity. |
Tech (especially SV tech) has a strong emphasis on pedigree in hiring. Folks that go to good programs will automatically have a leg up on everyone else. Family wealth has a piece in that as well, as it affords (1) going to that good school and (2) being able to safely take those risks afterwards. |
| What is SV tech? |
Silicon Valley |
You’re thinking of Wall Street. |
You’re not off base; They’re more alike than anyone in tech would ever care to admit. |
Yeah, they all went to the same schools |
|
| There are some exceptions though. If you go to a “decent” university in a true hotbed for these high-paying professions you may be able to make it into them. Examples are SJSU, Cal Poly, CUNY schools, Santa Clara and Fordham. |
For tech, right? Won’t work in banking. |
For both. But CUNY always have been an engine of economic mobility. |
