Such a stupid comment. This will never happen. The nominee will be Trump or DeSantis.

I think you'll be surprised. As a moderate, I'll happily cross parties and vote for Youngkin. But never Trump or DeSantis.

I would cross lines to vote against him. Youngkin is a hated figure in Va and moderates will not vote for him. He is running for president and will continue his radical agenda.

DP. Hi, nutter. Youngkin is anything but a "hated figure." Only someone completely partisan would make such a stupid comment. And no one - including you - has any idea whether he would run for president. Take a seat.

Moderate Democrats don’t decide who wins the Republican nomination.

You're right - they don't.

This is more about trump being done vs republicans not wanting to destroy the country. Oh and no moderate dem would even consider voting for youngkin. Maybe a a “moderate” trumper would but not a moderate democrat.

Clearly you've been living under a rock (or perhaps, a bridge). Plenty of Biden voters voted for Youngkin. How soon you forget.

Overall, 41 percent of Virginia voters approve of Youngkin’s job performance during his first few weeks in office and 43 percent disapprove. Sixteen percent said they did not know how they felt.

“Youngkin’s approval numbers are certainly lower than those of recent governors in Wason Center polling early in their term,” Kidd added.

Not surprising. The best numbers I've seen for Youngkin winning the election are 52% to 48%. Most indicate Youngkin won with just over 50% of the vote - 50.6 or 50.8. He wasn't that popular of a candidate to begin with. Add in a lot of the bumbling and harsh rhetoric you've heard from him and other VA GOPers and there you go.

I haven't heard any "bumbling or harsh (wtf?) rhetoric" from him. What on earth are you babbling about?

Okay. Check those VA exit polls again. Trust me, Youngkin didn't win just with Republicans.

DP. Exit polls are now three months old and tell us nothing about what Youngkin has done since taking office. Current approval polls like OP posted are much more relevant to public sentiment today.

Well he has secured a major political victory in removing all mask mandates in the state for one and has the Democrats in the U.S. Senate copying him and trying to implement a FEDERAL gas tax holiday for another. All in under 30 days. I'd say he's pretty successful. But keep whining, its not working, but its entertaining.

Exactly. The entire country is watching Youngkin and many are following his lead.

Yeah, that "parent concern" trope is done now, that people saw what he is really about. He won by a very thin margin, and only because he was perceived as a moderate.

That won't stop RWNJs from continuing to push it.

As LWNJs continue to overreact, exaggerate, outright lie.

Its amazing how he's become a focal point for Democrat AND Republican policies. I've noticed Republican candidates who are trying to thread the needle like he did by not mentioning or publicly meeting Trump but still winning. And the Democrats are bringing up federal gas tax holidays. And some candidates are even DRESSING LIKE HIM. It is insane.

I knew he was special when I saw him on the campaign trail. Can't wait until 2024.

The only governor to snarl the beltway has been Northam.

He didn't "secure a major political victory" with the mask mandates thing. He issued an "executive order" and a large majority of school districts said, "oh, screw you" and ignored him for weeks. This was important since it bought critical weeks until Omicron finally petered out. When Youngkin was sworn in, the positivity rate in Loudoun was like 35% for example. By the time the legislature acted, it was under 8%. So in fact, what that showed was Youngkin took office and tried to flex some authority and everyone showed him the finger. It was actually a major FAIL -- never seen a new governor so disrespected like that.

As for the gas tax, that's really dumb. Our roads aren't in great shape as it is. Maybe there is some infrastructure money coming from the feds that makes this gas tax holiday easier to do? If so, Youngkin should thank Joe Biden.

Well that's certainly some revisionist history. The VA senate - both Republicans AND Democrats - supported Youngkin in removing the state mask mandate. Deal with it.

Yup.

LOL Nothing compares to a U.S. Senator being locked in traffic in VA for 27-hours on the way to a vote with nothing but an orange to eat. Sorry.

You know, most people can understand the difference between a snow storm and a bunch of snowflakes being allowed to throw a tantrum over nothing while the rest of us try to live our lives.

DP. Huh - kind of reminds me of LWNJs throwing a tantrum over masks while the rest of us try to live our lives.

1) Most bonafide Rs support him
2) Most bonafide Ds oppose him
3) Others, including perhaps some who voted across party lines, are waiting a bit before casting judgment

But that’s not the norm for Virginia politics. Even four years ago when Northam took office there wasn’t such an extreme political divide. Unfortunately Youngkin’s first moves after taking office were hyper partisan and divisive, which set an ugly tone.

DP. His first moves after taking office were exactly what he ran on. IOW, this is why he won the election. He's true to his word - more than can be said about a lot of politicians.

Nope — he said he would let localities decide when he campaigned but then went full TX and FL after he was elected. Why are you so wrong about a basic fact?

Nah, its still Northams fault for not preparing the roads and bridges or at least declaring a state of emergency so people weren't on the roads in the first place.

+1
And then these imbeciles had the audacity to mock Youngkin when he warned drivers to stay off 81 during our last snowstorm. He was on top of it, along with VDOT - unlike Northam's debacle.

No one mocked him for issuing the warning. He was mocked for tweeting the Bin Laden raid-style situation room photo along with it.

Tell that to the just-recalled members of the San Francisco School Board. Fed-up parents are going to be the swing voters in the upcoming election and we're pissed.

It's astounding how posters like the PP are so out of touch - and convinced that *we're* the ones who are out of touch. Reality is going to be a rude awakening for them.

Whatever. Most of us were just glad to have a governor who was so clearly on top of the situation.
