Youngkin Underwater in Poll

But that’s not the norm for Virginia politics. Even four years ago when Northam took office there wasn’t such an extreme political divide. Unfortunately Youngkin’s first moves after taking office were hyper partisan and divisive, which set an ugly tone.

Virginia's political landscape is shifting just as the nation's political landscape is shifting. The state is just as hyper partisan now as the country.

There is no longer any such thing as "bonafide Rs" - there are now only loud vocal MAGAs who have no vision or principles, only knee-jerk reactionary behavior, versus the more principled old school Republicans, most of whom are too ineffectual, weak and timid to speak out and take their party back from the Trumpsters.

Okay, honey.

Such a stupid comment. This will never happen. The nominee will be Trump or DeSantis.

I think you'll be surprised. As a moderate, I'll happily cross parties and vote for Youngkin. But never Trump or DeSantis.

Moderate Democrats don’t decide who wins the Republican nomination.

You're right - they don't.

This is more about trump being done vs republicans not wanting to destroy the country. Oh and no moderate dem would even consider voting for youngkin. Maybe a a “moderate” trumper would but not a moderate democrat.

Okay. Check those VA exit polls again. Trust me, Youngkin didn't win just with Republicans.

DP. Exit polls are now three months old and tell us nothing about what Youngkin has done since taking office. Current approval polls like OP posted are much more relevant to public sentiment today.

Bailing out on his first term ever if elected office won’t be a good look in a presidential campaign.

Ask Sarah Palin how that went

I would cross lines to vote against him. Youngkin is a hated figure in Va and moderates will not vote for him. He is running for president and will continue his radical agenda.

Radical agenda Anything that isn't paying money out to lazy UMC parents who WFH is a 'radical agenda' in your mind. Can't wait to see the Democratic party (MY party) walloped again - they haven't yet learned their lesson from the VA Gubernatorial election and San Francisco School Board recall.

Sure here is the thing. If he runs for president he will not carry Virginia. He is just too radical for Virginia. He will most likely be recalled and end up down in Mar-a-Lago sending out fund raise letters for trump.

Overall, 41 percent of Virginia voters approve of Youngkin’s job performance during his first few weeks in office and 43 percent disapprove. Sixteen percent said they did not know how they felt.

“Youngkin’s approval numbers are certainly lower than those of recent governors in Wason Center polling early in their term,” Kidd added.

Not surprising. The best numbers I've seen for Youngkin winning the election are 52% to 48%. Most indicate Youngkin won with just over 50% of the vote - 50.6 or 50.8. He wasn't that popular of a candidate to begin with. Add in a lot of the bumbling and harsh rhetoric you've heard from him and other VA GOPers and there you go.

Yeah, that "parent concern" trope is done now, that people saw what he is really about. He won by a very thin margin, and only because he was perceived as a moderate.

Well he has secured a major political victory in removing all mask mandates in the state for one and has the Democrats in the U.S. Senate copying him and trying to implement a FEDERAL gas tax holiday for another. All in under 30 days. I'd say he's pretty successful. But keep whining, its not working, but its entertaining.

It won’t hurt at all. I’m a Dem, but a whole heck of a lot of Americans will do anything an insanely rich white guy tells them to do.

That won't stop RWNJs from continuing to push it.

I am a parent and have never felt as silenced in Virginia as I do. He doesn’t support parents — he supports parents who agree with him.

And, as a Virginian, I am distressed by the divine partisan approach he has brought here. This is not “the Virginia Way.” Denying Northam’s board appointment, bashing localities and showing up on Fox News and other national right wing media so many times in his first few weeks.

He blundered his way through his first month so it’s not really surprising. He has really bad advisers and his inexperience is showing.

He should have stopped campaigning and started governing.

Also, stop running to Fox News and start talking to the real media in your state (see first point).

Heath experts in Virginia questioned the science behind his mask EO and there wasn’t anything to support his statements: https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/02/20/youngkin-covid-masks-vaccines-science/
