Dreading Youngkin

Youngkin threw a temper tantrum and threatened APS over it maintaining a mask mandate that his EO didn’t actually ban.

Montgomery County might be a better alternative for you. Housing prices are also cheaper because Maryland just can't attract companies like Amazon and has one middling state university and a bunch of red brick colleges and universities that train baristas.

Grew up in NOVA and gladly moved to MD when it came to buying our home and raising our children. Great schools, both private and public, diverse and open-minded population. Virginia has tried to leave the Confederate-loving, bumpkin identity behind, but it is obviously still there. But tell me more about those housing prices. Really, who would want to move into the Loudoun school district now?

Yeah. Most people don’t want book banning nut jobs living next door.

Will he send in armed officers to enforce the EO?

That’s a very good question.

I really hope APS holds the line on this and forces Youngkin’s hand. If the most vivid image to come out of Youngkin’s first weeks in office is him sending armed National Guard to an elementary school to force them to let unmasked children into classrooms, it will destroy Youngkin’s political future.

If things get bad enough, we will move to Maryland. No need to stay in a shithole when they’re sanity just a few miles away.

Come join us in MoCo. It’s not perfect but we will never allow in a Trumpkin.

MOCo also can’t keep schools open with qualified teachers. But hey, school kids don’t vote.

Right??? A rich white man beat another rich rich man. Neither give a F about Virginia families. Both like most politicians are in it for themselves. They care about what benefits them and their rich pals. But keep fighting over BS. Fools.

If only we had Kanye vs Antonio!

Hold the line, APS.

That he won still disgusts me to no end but the fear is also creeping in. I do not live in NOVA and down here, it's become more and more uncomfortable since 2016. I have always been very politically engaged and invested in the future of my community and our country but even I, a nobody, find myself speaking less and avoiding doing anything that might bring attention to myself. On one hand I feel guilty because now is the time for those who know better to stand up for what is right but I'm also middle aged, tired, and feel like the battle has already been lost.

I wish politics had never become entertainment.

Youngkin won’t be able to pass much of his agenda in the first two years and his general incompetence is already on display — a son who tried to commit voter fraud so obviously he doesn’t instill good values in his children; and the Republican legislation demanding Virgina schools teach about the debates between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass just this week. There will be a series of these and attempted overreaches early that will turn voters against him quickly, especially if the virus situation worsens and he doesn’t deliver on his promises to slay the phantom menaces that were the straw man issues of his campaign. The backlash will be swift in two years.

I don't think you want to use a sins of the son argument.

Why? That kid is old enough to know better . That kid is old enough for consequences. That kid is a spoiled brat. He even posted online. Sure his private school taught him well and his absolutely worthless parents taught him how to be a spoiled brat.

Youngkin will destroy Virginia mark my words he’s a dictator trump criminal who is going to grift and grift off of Virginia.

They have the law on their side. Passed during the 2021 Special Session:

For the purposes of this act, each school board shall (i) adopt, implement, and, when appropriate, update specific parameters for the provision of in-person instruction and (ii) provide such in-person instruction in a manner in which it adheres, to the maximum extent practicable, to any currently applicable mitigation strategies for early childhood care and education programs and elementary and secondary schools to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 that have been provided by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Eghh he won't have to. With the way things are going there won't be enough teachers and it'll go remote anyway.

I would guess attorneys with briefcases. And if there’s a legal standoff between (presumably Democratic) educators and a Republican governor that drags on for a meaningful period of time, that just makes the anticipated red wave that much bigger.

I’m sorry. I feel the same way. He is already a disaster. I’m so angry.

It’s been a rough few years for APS.

To stop masks in the middle of Omnicrom surge is so incredibly mind boggling. Who does that?
