I live in Virginia and on top of everything else going on in the world, I hate how he is about to empower the lunatics here. That he won still disgusts me to no end but the fear is also creeping in. I do not live in NOVA and down here, it's become more and more uncomfortable since 2016. I have always been very politically engaged and invested in the future of my community and our country but even I, a nobody, find myself speaking less and avoiding doing anything that might bring attention to myself. On one hand I feel guilty because now is the time for those who know better to stand up for what is right but I'm also middle aged, tired, and feel like the battle has already been lost.
I wish politics had never become entertainment. |
| Republicans...Democrats...it doesn't matter. Wake up and watch the collapse. |
| All the Handmaids voted for Youngkin. |
|
I am personally very unhappy about his views on mask mandates.
Will he allow local control or go full Desantis on schools? |
The districts decide unless that foolish law NOVA parents supported that forced schools open regardless of Covid rates has a clause I don’t know about. |
| I predict this governor will be dreaded within 2 years, and those purple independents will rue they fell for the CRT BS to give this guy their vote and trust. |

Goodbye surplus, Hello deficit

OP, l don’t know if you are still reading this but my advice is to get involved in your local Democratic party or if you prefer check out Neighbors Organizing for Progress and Equality (NOPE) https://www.nopeneighbors.org/about-mission — l found that worrying, dreading, posting makes little difference and simply drains you. Worry without action is only pain…nothing good comes from it.
It’s better to take concrete action— postcard campaigns, letter writing, phonebank, helping keep websites updated, donations, and more, including research and accounting for this kind of organizations, they all need volunteers, including for jobs “behind the scenes” if don’t like voter contact. You will meet (on Zoom these days) people who feel the same as you, and you will do something good with them. It helps a lot. |
Youngkin won’t be able to pass much of his agenda in the first two years and his general incompetence is already on display — a son who tried to commit voter fraud so obviously he doesn’t instill good values in his children; and the Republican legislation demanding Virgina schools teach about the debates between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass just this week. There will be a series of these and attempted overreaches early that will turn voters against him quickly, especially if the virus situation worsens and he doesn’t deliver on his promises to slay the phantom menaces that were the straw man issues of his campaign. The backlash will be swift in two years. |
I don't think you want to use a sins of the son argument. |
Why? Because you are a nut job who believes conspiracy theories? |
It’s an example of the types of things that will show up and showcase his general incompetence. Here in Loudoun, his most rabid supporters think Miyares is going to do some massive investigation of LCPS and fire all the school board members. That isn’t how it works, of course, and these people seem to forget McAuliffe won Loudoun handily, but my guess is Youngkin and Miyares aren’t really going to do anything about “CRT” (other than drop legislation demanding students be taught about the debates between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass) and whatever “investigation” into the sexual assault incident will turn up … nothing. Meanwhile the recall petitions will crash and burn and the liberal school board members all will be re-elected and continue their important work into bringing more equity to the schooo, an effort widely supported by the community. Youngkin will have to deal with things like transvaginal ultrasounds and efforts to ban books and all the rest of the crazy stuff Virginia conservatives want to do. The press will be bad. That said if Omicron subsides and the virus situation calms down this summer he might benefit from that. |
| Youngkin is a nightmare and his AG is even worse. |
| Masks need to stay on until Omicron subsides. Then maybe come back if another variant requires it. Youngkin is harming our people and our hospitals with his rash act. |
