Outdoor lunch

Where are you getting that lunch is 15 minutes? It’s always a solid 30 at our ES for k-5 and PK is 45 min. So that means tomorrow in the below freezing temps four year olds will be sitting on concrete for 45 min.

They will have it inside today.

At my kid's school, they'd changed it to be 14 minutes so that they'd never cross the close contact threshold. It was stupid.

Lunch lasts 15 minutes and if it curbs the spread why wouldn't they? This is important whether you care about your kid getting sick or you care about them missing school due to COVID/COVID close contact or both.

My kid at Janney was told they would eat inside tomorrow.

My kid at Janney was told they'd have an option to eat inside, not that there would be no outside lunch.

Took us more time to walk to school this morning (and certainly more time for me to walk to school and then back) than lunch takes, and we managed that outside. I don't really think sitting outside for 10 or 15 minutes with weather-appropriate clothing counts as child abuse.

My Janney kid wasn't told they'd have an indoor option. I don't see how they could leave that up to a 5 year old to decide. It should be the parents decision.

I'll definitely allow my vaccinated kid to eat inside in this weather if they so choose.

+1, also I’m impressed that these kids communicated what they’d heard. My Janney first grader had no idea. But I trust the school on this and am ok with my kid eating either indoors or out.

Welp, they had indoor lunch at Janney today and my kid was told they weren't given an option. The ENTIRE GRADE was packed in the cafeteria shouting to each other. My DC said it was so loud they couldn't hear. Can't think of faster way to spread Omicron. Great job.

I'm the poster who said I would be ok with my kids eating indoors if they choose. I just asked and one of them said their class was given a choice, and my kid chose to eat outdoors with a few friends because most kids wanted to be indoors and they thought it would be cool to have the outside space to themselves... My other kid said their class was told they would all eat indoors. So it seems it depended on the teacher?

My kids go to Janney, and we'd wanted them to do outdoor lunch today, but... it was awfully cold, so it's kind of hard for me to really get that worked up about the fact that they didn't. Most of the kids in the school are vaccinated. Guess we'll just see what happens.

That was ill-advised to say the least, considering current high transmission, which Janney isn't shielded from, based on the 16 cases form back-to-school testing, and this two days old notification for 4 more https://dcpsreopenstrong.com/articles/janney-elementary-school-covid-19-notification-22/

No they will not. They cannot.

Teacher here - it’s unlikely they would have eaten in cafeteria. Probably in classrooms.

Update: They were. All of the kids at Hearst were forced to eat outside and given no indoor lunch option. Parents were told to leave work and come get them for lunch if they wanted. Ridiculous.
