Yeah all the communications have been that the 5% threshold starts a decision-making process but it's not automatic. People are acting like it is, but that's not what's been said by MCPS.

Hmmm. Are they intentionally trying to fear monger using RED to create a groundswell of people demanding virtual?

As expected, it’s red everywhere. They created a process to ensure this outcome. The giveaway is that they currently have not articulated a process to get out of red and back to school.

And I am SO fine with that. Schools need to close. MCPS should never have tried to open after the winter break, but, they needed something to show parents how much schools needed to close, so here we are with this color coding.

Don't worry. The UK, which started this Omicron surge two weeks before us, is seeing signs that it may be receding. So this probably isn't going to last past January.

It would be nice if MCPS actually, you know, communicated this to the public and also let us know what this decision making process was. Not too much to ask.

Wow. Our high school dropped by 42 cases. There’s 0 staff out with COVID according to the new report. We should now be in the green.

Those are just the cases reported today, not the cumulative cases. There’s a separate document with the total cases since winter break started.

Yes, it's interesting to have the two sets of data.

WTH - 4pm 35 cases. 7pm 137 cases - red. Total Whiplash.

How long till MCPS take vaccinated students and staff off their lists? At what point is the entire school system essentially online? How will Special Education students who could not receive accommodations and services during the last 18 months of online learning going to receive accommodations and services now?

This is a nightmare.

What color would you have chosen?

Monifa McKnight is in charge so it’s her system and her responsibility. Just like that ridiculous quarantine policy in the fall. She owns this mess. And the BOE, of course.

A disaster. And the buses fiasco this morning. Our school has parents calling they are + but not aware that they need to fill out forms. How are these counts accurate?

My SN child, and all the other SN children I know, received services and accommodations. I have no complaints.
Don't use special needs as your pitchfork.

They will shut down tomorrow and go virtual Friday for the snow (or in reality monday when they close schools for snow Friday)

Only 8 greens. And those are not reliable. They are probably red.

They did? Did you read the emails? They said: "[I]f 5 percent or more of unrelated students/teachers/staff (minimum of 10 of these individuals) tests positive in a 14-day period, a determination will be made as to whether the school should be closed for 14 calendar days and transition to virtual instruction. Please note that the 5 percent threshold does not automatically result in school closure; the primary factor to consider will be the level of the spread of the virus in the school. MCPS central office staff will work with DHHS in making this decision, and parents/guardians at the school will be notified when this occurs."

I don't expect to be notified of exactly how the school makes the decision (apparently you do), but they communicated the policy to the public.

MCPS is an utter farce.
