Doordash - why does it suck so much and why does EVERY restaurant use them?

Anonymous
I don’t use them but it’s the restaurant fault for missing food. Often they do several deliveries at once so if you are not the first it gets cold.

The other night I placed an on-line order directly from a restaurant's website for delivery and they said it wold be delivered by Door Dash. 30 minutes later I get a text that Door Dash cancelled my order because the restaurant couldn't fill the order. Huh? Why did they take the order in the first place and why did it take them 30 minutes to let me know. Not sure if it is Door Dash problem, but I generally try to avoid them like the plague. Uber Eats has been a little more consistent.

They don’t have enough staff.

Some of us live in redlined areas and third party delivery services are our only option.

I don't like waiting an hour for cold food, but in my neighborhood it's that or nothing.

I would take a shitty frozen pizza over $$$ cold shitty food I waited an hour for. There are always other options than being ripped off and getting garbage food at the same time.

It's midnight, you don't have a frozen pizza in the fridge, you have had a few drinks so you can't do pickup, you live at 47th and Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE.

That's my situation when I order Door dash or Uber eats. Tell me, what are my other options?

Oh, I don’t know, maybe eating dinner at a reasonable time so you’re not hungry for a full meal at midnight? Just spitballing here.

Go to bed? Eating late at night is bad for you and just goes to the bottom line.

Right? All these people commenting "go to bed" fundamentally misunderstand the concept of delivery. When I want food at midnight it's because I just got home from a social situation and am going to be up at least a few more hours. "Just don't eat" isn't an option.

Clearly they can't comprehend anyone with different schedules or lifestyles from them so I'll translate it to rich stay at home mom: "Imagine it's 4:00pm and you just got Jayyyd3n and L@r1a home from Cantonese language interpretive dance. Your built-in Sub-Zero has broken and there's nothing to eat. There's a gas leak on Wisconsin Ave and your Postmates can't pick up your organic kale from Whole Foods. Do you just go to sleep, or do you pay to get Le Diplomate delivered?"

This excuse is getting old. They don't have enough staff because they are NOT PAYING THEM ENOUGH.

I'm the OP of this [very old] thread and clearly nobody actually read it -- I do not order through the DoorDash app. I order from restaurants directly, sometimes I call them. But somehow, they still use DoorDash to deliver, they don't have their own delivery drivers anymore because they don't want to pay them as much as those people are earning through DoorDash. It's frustrating, and restaurants need to pay better and stop using "we can't find staff" as an excuse. It's not that you can't find staff, it's that you are cheap.

C- for the creative writing effort. The PP said they had a few drinks and it was late. It's not that deep. Going to bed is always an option. This isn't a woe is me, it's just the usual poor planning and bad decision making. But if people want to pay top dollar for cold soggy food, nobody is trying to stop them. But the "oh no what else could I possibly do" is pathetic.

If you want them to hire drivers are you willing to pay?
