| I use DD all the time, in a few different cities. Anecdotally, I think it's about tip and distance. So I order from reasonably distanced restaurants and tip well, and even more based on distance. |
I understand the basic idea of take out food, just not the DD model where you're waiting on someone else who might make multiple stops, pick up your food late, not have any ability to keep it warm during transport. When you pick up yourself you have control over the timing so you can get it home as quick as possible. But paying a premium for things like cold soggy fries makes no sense. |
Does the driver get to see the tips amount when you place the order? |
Oh yeah I don’t order fries, nor ice cream for that matter. They rarely make a stop for another delivery - you can pay extra to insure they don’t if you are feeling extra anxious about it. Basically most of them deliver like you would deliver your own pick up. |
DP: the latest I heard that no, but they get to somehow guess if it’s over $4.50 or so |
I know that's not always true because I see the food sitting there waiting to be picked up for several minutes when I'm dining out, wondering what people will think of their cold food when they finally get it. When I do my own pick up, I'm there a few minutes early because the food is often done early. I did Doordash one time from a place I did take out from often and the food came ice cold. It was never cold when I did my own pick up. I haven't tried it since because it felt like a waste of money. I assumed there was another stop because I can't imagine why it took so long to get to my door since I was only a few minutes away. |
Ew. |
| I use it all the time and rarely have an issue. Food normally comes quickly. |
I do pickup and delivery quite often I can be late for my own pickup and vice versa. Yes I have received lukewarm food, at times, but nothing horrible. I also hate making phone calls so if I pick up I either order via DD for pickup or just come in and order and wait, it depends. I also don’t like sit down meals in a restaurant especially lately (not because of safety). So I guess to each their own |
They can’t see the tip, but it’s typically not hard to figure out based on the total for the delivery. Good, experienced and efficient drivers won’t take no/low tip orders. |
|
There were a couple of viralTikToks about this. They can turn down a delivery if they want.

| You might just live in a part of town where there aren’t many Dashers. We use it probably once a week with no problem. I tip well, which helps. |
| I tip well and still had a Door Dash Driver lie about dropping food off (It was a lot of food for a grpup huge tip,, I checked my ring doorbell, they never came). Even with the evidence I had Door Dash did nothing. I've had a better experience with Uber Eats. |
| I rather just go pick it up. It’s always cold. No thanks |
| Have you watched them on the map? Even with a $15 tip and only 10min drive, doordash doubles up orders and your food visits other people before it gets to you. |
