If teams weren't coming from as far away as Florida and paying a premium fee, you may have a point. Again, if it was some rec game, just play. For a tournament like this, it's a disgrace. Just talking to someone coming from PA and they are pissed. Bethesda promised turf for them to come back to this tournament and Bethesda pulled this crap. They won't be back. Burnt that bridge with that club.

Easily replaced with one of the other 2,000 teams from the Mid-Atlantic. There's really no need for kids U15 and below to travel over 100 miles for competition. We have tens of thousands of soccer kids in the DMV area and can find a few dozen superstars among them to compete against one another. Don't like the Bethesda tournament? Go to Richmond or the Capital Cup, which are the same weekend. In the end, all first world problems.

I understand that they are 1st world problems but that doesn't mean you provide a crap service. If you order a steak at a restaurant and the waiter just throws a slab of hamburger on the table, do you just chalk it up to 1st world problems? Of course not. You expect a product and level of service that you paid for. Chalking things up to 1st world problems makes no sense here. And the idea....of "who cares if they come" they should travel that far anyway...is such a stupid way to defend Muldoons. If people want to travel, let them. It's their choice.

Don't the showcases in Florida provide grass fields? Muldoons hasn't been used much and the fields should be fine.

Sounds like you and your family should stay home. Drink some tea 🍵 and relax. The other players will enjoy it.

The real question is "why aren't we going south to play". One 09 boys team is coming from Miami (Fri-79, Sat - 80, Sun-80) to 49 to 55 degree weather highs. Maybe the Bethesda team will be going south to Miami during the winter months and the have a reciprocal agreement.

As a parent of an older soccer player, there are grass fields in the area. Bles park in loudoun and Soccerplex are some that come to mind. DS actually prefers a nice grass field over some of the turf fields. I don’t know the condition of Muldoon so can’t speak to that, but pros play on grass fields (eg Audi Field) so grass can’t be all bad.

BUT, the age groups have been split up again this year. Sooo, the younger boys (u12 and under) will play in the Spring version of the tournament.
This weekend is U13+up, so if I was traveling for this, I'd be pissed once I scanned the fields from the parking lot. But, since I'm local, it will just be comedic fun.

Um there are two other tournaments in the area this weekend. The older age groups 16 and up are mostly playing at the soccerplex. Others are playing at local high schools in the county. Some of which have really bad turf such RMHS and whitman.

PP - I agree. DS would take soccerplex grass over RMHS turf any day of the week. DD was at RMHS last weekend. My point was grass can’t be too terrible (in general) if pros use it. Again, don’t know the specific conditions of Muldoon, but grass in general is not a bad thing.

It's not like it is Julius West pre-turf. But that does bring up a good question why Bethesda doesn't use those turf fields.

Gio Leon, 7 year old from Chicago, attended his big brother's soccer match three weeks ago. Ball left the field and little Gio tried to help in retrieving it. He was struck by a car in the street near the high school field and later succumbed to his injuries. Yes, good condition fields are important. Sure, there will be bad calls this weekend that are incredulous. But, let's remember that ALL of us are the lucky ones to have healthy kids able to play soccer. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2021/10/26/large-turnout-vigil-gio-leon-boy-hit-killed-by-car-chicago-heights/

Msi paid for Julius west a couple years ago and has squatting rights.

Not only a complete first world problem, but these whiners are ruining an otherwise interesting thread, as they do every year. I think we need a new thread called “If you hate Muldoon’s and want to b*tch and moan about BSC’s decision to use it for their tournament, come on in!”

It’s too bad that they aren’t being used. It makes it appear that there is bad blood between the two clubs.
