Virginians just elected a black woman and Latino guy. Yes, must be racist white enthusiasts who voted them in. Democrats fail to recognize that there are much more educated AA now.

I can’t tell if all the “Democrats” on this site are Russian Trolls or not. It’s always somehow linked back to racism even when it’s clearly not. When there is no intelligent argument, they just start calling everyone who disagrees with them racist. It seems like something a Russian troll would do to stir the pot.

Did you watch MSNBC last night? They had an on-air meltdown about how Youngkin voters were white supremacists.

Yes, it's always the other person that's the problem. You are perfect.

Unbelievable!

As the other PP pointed out, what's the Dem strategy to target moderates like me?

It can be both, you know? Yes, there were many failings on one side; but it is also true that Youngkin whipped up white racist enthusiasm.

As far as moderates like you: there has been plenty of things that McAuliffe (very much a moderate) and the current governor did that should appeal to you. Strong economy, elimination of rape kit back log (HUGE). Expanding medicaid. Leader in education, much as people would have you believe otherwise.

Youngkin is opposed to gay marriage, is not pro choice, and will reduce everything to pure dollars and cents. He will have ZERO affect on local school board issues or FCPS. This scenario is not something that typically appeals to moderates. If you are one, you should be concerned about what you just voted for.

I did not vote for Youngkin but voted McAuliffe for all the reasons you mention.

A lot of folks are pissed off at the school board for their wrong focus during the pandemic and what they perceive as anti-merit policies and voted for Youngkin out of spite. I clearly understand that the school board being ultra liberal/lefty/whatever is not a reflection of McAuliff but he was the available target for their anger. Now it's his party's job to educate their minions on the SB to do their job or risk losing future elections.

Or maybe closing public school buildings for a year has consequences.

I voted Democrat for all those reasons as well.

And I can easily look at how the COVID response in this area pissed off tons of families and hurt people. We should have been back in school 5 days a week in February last year. The damage to kids by staying out of schools is high.

The focus on social justice issues in the schools is ridiculous. If you teach kids to read, write, and think they will be able to look at evidence and draw conclusions that are probably more in line with mainstream thought then the far right propaganda that you worry about. The kids whose parents are white supremacists and honestly believe that crap are not sending their kids to FCPS and their kids minds are not going to be changed because of the "counseling" hour in ES discussing feelings and social justice topic of the day.

The Democratic Party in Virginia has a lot of Progressives in it that want to see Bernie and his policies pushed through and fail to recognize that Moderates and Independents are just not looking at those policies as valid or optimal. And if you give them a choice they are either not going to choose, and stay home and not vote, or they are going to vote for the Republicans. This is known. There are books written on it. So why the hell won't the Democrats of NoVA learn the damn lesson and accept where they are.

Because the results of this latest election are far more damaging then running on platforms that are moderate and trying to force the social justice agenda that most people are not interested in down their throat.

So yeah, lets set back a womans right to choose and Gay rights and all sorts of other important issues so that we can fight over social justice in the form of lowering standards in schools in the name of social equity. Rah us

How about he whipped blacks and hispanics enthusiasm? Did you see the number of AA and hispanic votes that went to Youngkin? I was a poll watcher in the heavy hispanic community and their enthusiasm for Miyares was amazing! They don't care about gay marriages, they don't care about climate change. All blacks are in shock this morning that NONE of the media covering success of the black woman immigrant. How you can possibly not acknowledge her?

If that’s their takeaway, the Democrats are going to get hammered next year. There are many racists at the core of the Republicans base. There are many anti-white racists at the core of the liberal base. The voters deciding this in the middle aren’t either.

yes, but McAuliffe lost ground - I think Northam had 70% in FC. Whether it is fair or not, parents of all political persuasions (with 20/20 hindsight of course) were dissatisfied with FCPS in some regard - whether it was the complete and embarrassing failure of implementing on-line learning back in March 2019, the failure to open schools earlier in AUG 2020 to allow kids to engage with teachers before going virtual when Delta variant arrived, the very strict rules about social distancing/quarantine/masking even for HS kids who were vaccinated, the failure to acknowledge that kids were participating in sports/pods and bars/restaurants open but still not in school, the comparison to private schools - and of course the cultural issues surrounding curriculum.

It will be interesting to see if campaigns focus on COVID failures or the culture wars issues.

Don't forget their bizarre decision to prioritize a rehaul of the TJ admissions process in the middle of a pandemic and their incompetence when it comes to facilities management (spending $$$$ where it isn't needed while ignoring schools in need of investment). They suck as both people and board members.

I've been thinking the same thing. Is it mostly one poster? They really aren't helping the Democratic cause.

70% of Virginias own guns, including democrats. If they don't need that, the percentage would be 0%-10% max.

I just read the Standards of Learning. No mention of CRT or CRT concepts in it.

I think what people are all up in arms about is training for teachers on pedagogy. Not curriculum.

Brabrand told them the VA secretary of education was requiring the bolded. Atif Qarni, who will be replaced by Youngkin, is behind quite a bit of the nonsense.
