Group of teens throwing raw eggs at cars on Wisconsin after school 10/26

Anonymous
Back in the 80’s my friends and I (white, New England suburbs, catholic school, upper middle class) drove around town throwing eggs. Not proud of it now but “kids will be kids”. All of these friends went on to top colleges and top careers.

Toxic stress from Covid and BLM is spilling out everywhere. I’m sorry this happened to your son or anyone. It IS seriously dangerous behavior. I’m glad it was only eggs however. Part of me has been expecting much worse. Scary times.

I live in Texas now and I concur. The middle schoolers and freshmen especially are out of control.

My son is certain that this group hit at least two other cars ahead of him with eggs. He knows one of the drivers, coincidentally. Everyone was going ~20 mph which my son said made it fairly easy to control his car. It's entirely plausible that one of the 3+ drivers who were hit could've swerved onto the sidewalk and plowed into the crowd of (mostly?) kids. My son said he had a few seconds of warning because he saw the kids target the cars in front of him, so he stayed the course, but that car #1 did indeed swerve out of its lane.

OP was your son driving home from a private school?

Not OP but what relevance does that have to the issue at hand? The driver could have been a grandma coming home from a bridge tournament. The point is these kids' behavior is unacceptable (and before you accuse me of the great crime of having kids in private school, I have two kids in DCPS, including one at Wilson)

Because it will answer on pp's question of what is her point? It's like she's throwing eggs at DCPS, while her son is privileged enough to drive home from private school.

My kids are also in DCPS and I don’t get your point. Who cares what school the driver goes to? Does that excuse the behavior? Are we going to do a means test before someone can comment on crime in the city?

OP's son was assaulted, plain and simple. I'm not sure why people who know nothing about the law opine on things like this.

OP -- cops should look at CVS security footage and then have personnel at Wilson/Deal identify the perpetrators. Not too difficult. Keep checking in with the officer who took report to get status update. The more jerk kids like this know that everything they do is recorded and they can't get away with it like in the past, the better for society.

Today, people have video cameras and kids get in serious trouble for this. My nephew and his friends were charged criminally for egging someone's house. It's not the 80s anymore...

The egg clocked a driver - they lost control of a car and drove into a bunch of toddlers going for a walk from the local daycare.

It is not a big leap.

If you would so badly lose control of a car because an egg hit you in the face that you drive onto a sidewalk, you should not have a license now. That involves not just a failure to take your foot off the accelerator, but turning the steering wheel to a large degree. This same person could not handle a bee sting.

It’s actually fairly disorienting if you don’t know what’s going on and could definitely cause an accident. It sounds like op’s son saw the egg throwers before he was hit so not as big of a risk but if you didn’t but if it caused a big startle reaction it could absolutely cause an accident (and not just for bad drivers.) and yes, I have been hit in the face unexpectedly by an egg before as it happens!

Egged. People are being shot.

I don’t think anyone’s saying being egged=being shot. The dangerous thing here is the car aspect.

This group was standing on the sidewalk outside of CVS before 4 pm, after Wilson and Deal dismissal. And in fairness, also after dismissal at Janney and a few private schools further away on Wisconsin Ave.

My son filed a report with MPD so they'd have a record, and the cop pointed out that if the eggs had hit my kid two inches away from where they did land, the gunk would've blinded him while he was driving through super congested area. Nice, right?

Anyway ... I'll go ahead now and await the DCUM usuals who tell me that I should clutch my pearls and just move to Olney already. Also anticipating that this DCUM faction will insist that these teenagers were Just Being Rowdy

I mean that is awful and I’m sorry. I just don’t know what you hoped to accomplish with the post

Maybe that school administrators, parents and MPD stand in the area after school? Now there's a thought! What a bunch of f-ups (the egg throwers). People die when projectiles are thrown at cars. Glad your child made it home alive OP. Please keep us posted on the investigation. Have they taken any footage to the schools nearby to identify the peeps? This is wrong .

Although I would be concerned about the people throwing eggs getting shot.

Throwing eggs at cars in traffic is a way of bullying defenseless drivers. It's trash behaviour and MPD and the DA need to pursue this to the fullest extent of the law. They should apologize to the drivers and make restitution by cleaning up all the trash in Tenleytown in full view of their peers.

I mean, I'm not sure what having the teachers/ administrators stay late and "stand in the area" accomplishes. If you see something illegal, call the police.

Nothing directly. The posters are saying that DCPS brings in kids from outside Ward 3, in what is a typical dog whistle. The gist is that these kids wouldn’t be in Ward 3 otherwise. Implying that they don’t belong in this Ward. It’s way more racist than it appears on the surface once you think about it.

OK. What do you think the appropriate penalty is?

We'll start with assault charges and go from there. Hopefully as adults.

No. Stop deflecting.
