DC Public and Public Charter Schools
| I mean at least they weren’t poached eggs. |
In DCUM world, the driver was going too fast for conditions. |
| I mean, those kids are going to get their asses beat by adult drivers. |
Or even if they purchased them. |
|
They stole them. There was a lost about it that had been deleted. My kid confirmed it.
They ran out of the CVS with them. |
Why was that post deleted? I think it noted that these are kids who aren't in-bounds students? Everyone at Wilson knows who the troublemakers after school are, including school administrators. Why not at least put those kids on notice that the school is going to start working w/ law enforcement to make sure they behave? I get that lots of kids from unstable backgrounds had a bad last year, but that's no excuse. This could have had a fatal ending for a someone if the driver had lost control of the car. If their parents won't teach them how to act, then shouldn't "society"?? |
DCPS has a role in improving the environment. It has the ability to stagger dismissal times, for one, so there isn't a crush of humans released into a small commercial area every weekday, overwhelming the resources of MPD and the businesses that are steps away from DCPS property. |
OK. What do you think the appropriate penalty is? |
Sure. But that didn't happen. Or are you suggesting that they should be punished based on what might have, but didn't, happen? |
|
Teenagers are stupid selfish brats, news at 11.
Grew up in Great Falls. The (white) neighbor teens not only egged things, but they put fireworks in people's mailboxes a few times. |
| OP, I'm so sorry. That's terrible and very dangerous. I hope your son is ok. |
Why is that? Even assuming they are DCPS students, which is likely, it wasn't during school hours, or on school property. How long after school ends, and how far from school, should DCPS monitor and be responsible for behavior? |
| I’ll take my kid throwing eggs over taking hits on a crack pipe. |
You think kids at the same school should have staggered dismissal times? Got it. I'll tell you what, you try to convince the teacher's union that their members need to work longer hours for the same pay, and let us know how that goes. |
|
I am OP, and to be clear I am not recommending punishment for things that didn't happen. I'm not sure what specific steps should be taken so there won't be periodic repeats.
My son is certain that this group hit at least two other cars ahead of him with eggs. He knows one of the drivers, coincidentally. Everyone was going ~20 mph which my son said made it fairly easy to control his car. It's entirely plausible that one of the 3+ drivers who were hit could've swerved onto the sidewalk and plowed into the crowd of (mostly?) kids. My son said he had a few seconds of warning because he saw the kids target the cars in front of him, so he stayed the course, but that car #1 did indeed swerve out of its lane. |
