Group of teens throwing raw eggs at cars on Wisconsin after school 10/26

You think kids at the same school should have staggered dismissal times? Got it. I'll tell you what, you try to convince the teacher's union that their members need to work longer hours for the same pay, and let us know how that goes.

There are two large schools there that dismiss kids right around the same time.

OK. What do you think the appropriate penalty is?

DP, but it's vandalism if it damages the car. So whatever the penalty is for vandalism, dependent on damages. Community service? Fine for damages?

Honestly, though, I would more concerned about these kids getting shot.

AU neighborhood white lady on her phone at busy intersection...can we have some threads on this EVERY TIME IT OCCURS TODAY? All at intersection, drivers and peds, at risk of injury or death. Discuss.

These aren't equivalents.

Aren't you supposed to be listening to the teacher? Or did you cut class again

OP back again to point out that my kid was hit in the head with an intentionally thrown object. That's not vandalism. I know it's not death by assault rifle, but it's not 'just vandalism'

I'm PP and agree. Hurling eggs at moving vehicles is definitely unsafe and could have led to serious injury to your son or others. I'm glad your son filed a police report.

Black lady takes the oncoming traffic lane to turn left illegally on the walk signal to get into the WF parking garage because she just can’t wait her turn.

That doesn’t make theft, vandalism and assault ok. Wouldn’t you agree?

DCPS has a role in improving the environment. It has the ability to stagger dismissal times, for one, so there isn't a crush of humans released into a small commercial area every weekday, overwhelming the resources of MPD and the businesses that are steps away from DCPS property.

A few years back Wilson was temporarily at UDC during construction. At dismissal they had security every 20 feet or so making sure students left the building and went straight to the metro and did not loiter on the sidewalk at all. I remember steady streams of kids going right to the metro, maybe loud or swearing but no unsafe behavior. I vaguely recall that was announced as to what security measures would take place ahead of time. Not sure why that level of neighborhood security can't happen now if there are regular incidents of this type of conduct.

If it weren't for DCPS, those kids probably wouldn't even be in the neighborhood.

It used to be pizza. Guess they have switched to eggs.

The egg clocked a driver - they lost control of a car and drove into a bunch of toddlers going for a walk from the local daycare.

It is not a big leap.

Exactly. Dumb kids. I’m glad your son is OK.

The posters harping on the supposed background of the kids are missing the important points.

It doesn't matter whether the egg-throwers were coming from GDS, were Wilson students heading to their homes in AU Park, or heading to the metro.

In this city the adults have to impose consequences on kids who act out in dangerous ways. No patting on the heads and saying "kids will be kids".

The police report is sufficient. since it is now the schools responsibility to raise kids, I would notify the principal so they can at least try and instill some proper behavior in these behaviorally-challenged kids.
If it goes so far as actually identifying the kids, a fine would be appropriate.

DC hasn't been doing a good job of consequences for adults, why would they be stricter with kids?
