Who says sex as a teen is ok?

If your 13 year old is sexually active in anyway, including sexting, then I’m majorly concerned about your parenting. Children now are less sexual than any previous generation and your 13 is sexting? I’d verify the age of the ppl she’s communicating with because this is a abnormal.

What type of environment is this that this is normalized behavior? Seems young to me. Maybe I am naive.

It ABSOLUTELY is a thing. And if you say your kid doesn’t have social media, you are wrong about that too. I teach 7th grade and all the kids create accounts whether they are allowed or not. Many use separate screens like old phones, friends old phones, and they always use their chromebooks too. My own daughter went to an all girl school and i was once blind like you. Those girls are just as bad, if not worse because they are a bit more immature and trusting on boys they don’t see daily.

I hate it all. I think phones should be removed from school completely. Sent mine to private for that reason. But as a teacher in public, woah it’s non stop all day. And I would say sexting and nudes have been happening in 6th grade now for about 7 years. And I have a friend who teaches in elementary and it started about 2 years ago there.

I work at a private school and have dc that attends a private and there is absolutely none of this going on. My 2 dc have monitored devices and no access to Chromebooks or outside devices. The kids might be inappropriate with language or say stupid things but nothing even remotely close to sexting. I can’t even imagine nudes or unsolicited dick pics. Plenty of friends with children in similar environments and never heard anything close to what you are saying. What type children are you working with ? I’m imagining this is somewhere with cracked out and uninvolved parents with heavily trafficked youth. This is not normal.

Not the PP but just because it isn’t happening during school hours doesn’t mean it’s happening. The fact you think send your kid to private school blocks this is laughable

Is she engaging in sexting or has she just expressed this opinion on it as related to others?

If she is engaging in sexting, no phone for her, for at least another year. If it’s just her opinion, be checking her phone regularly

If my 13 were sexting, I would put screen limits on their phone where they could only communicate with certain approved friends and could not use social media or any texting app other than the native app on the phone.

Agree. I monitored my kids phones in middle school and the worst they and their friends did was exchange frequent swear words. We went to a K-8 and didn’t have much dating or hookups amongst the kids at that age. They were definitely more sheltered than they would have been at a bigger school and amongst kids who weren’t monitored.

I remember that when I was that age I thought prostitution was ok. I had that discussion with my mom. I thought I wouldn’t do it but if someone wants to why not, what makes it any different than any other job?

Of course I had no idea about the emotional aspects, the human trafficking, the stds, the pimos, the abuse etc
