OP here. Oh I know. I hid what I needed to before she arrived. |
Before people jump all over me, this was a JOKE! But no, it wasn’t See’s. No one should open mail or consume presents, regardless of contents. -OP |
Enstroms is amazing. I buy it every year at the holidays. |
| You need to address the fact that she opened your mail. You make it clear that is unacceptable to do to anyone. I would not bring up the chocolates b/c you don't really have an argument there that won't make you look petty. |
Their peanut butter chocolate is incredible… |
|
It's shockingly rude and bizarre.
I would not want someone in my home without me if they crossed boundaries like that. |
| In future, I enjoy replying to “I just couldn’t help myself!” with “Oh no! Perhaps we should talk to your doctor. Losing control of one’s impulses is a sign of senility, you know.” |
| Did the box state “Perishable”? If so, and you were going to be away for the night, it makes sense that she would open it. Food items, including chocolates, are frequently shipped with a “Perishable” marking. If this was the case, I would be glad she opened it bc it could have been cheese or something that needed refrigeration. It still doesn’t justify her helping herself to your birthday chocolates but this may not be a big deal. |
OP here. She 100% knew they were chocolates, and that leaving them in the box indoors was just fine. That wasn’t even the night we left, either. It was an afternoon that she was there and DH and I were at work. We don’t depart for our hotel check in until early afternoon today. |
I love you, OP. |
What did your husband say? Please say he lit into his mother for such a thoughtless act. |
|
OP, is there a reason you’re not telling us the name of the candy store? We all would like to enjoy some delicious chocolate!
I would say something to MIL after I was able to discuss it without being angry, and explain that she overstepped in a major way. Then I’d get her a box for Christmas, as someone suggested. |
I’m sorry, OP. She sounds awful in multiple ways. I’d be pissed, too. Some people have lousy boundaries. I’d avoid her as much as possible, but that’s just me. I know families are complicated. |
|
Please, OP, tell us the chocolates! I would hope that wouldn't out you in any way, we just want to know.
I already have Lake Champlain and Enstrom's tabs open! But the rest of y'all have to be better guessers because anything you can easily order online can't be it. It would have to be something way more boutique/farm market or from a place run by oldsters who don't want to mess with "the computer." |
Everyone trying to guess the candy store has issues! She said it was a local store from her hometown. Obviously she’s not talking about some chain brand you can buy at Whole Foods. I don’t blame the OP for not wanting to give away her hometown. You people are nuts. |
