| So many parents will be waiting to see what, if any, side effects happen to other people’s kids before they let their kids get the vaccine. California has a smarter approach. |
That poster doesn’t know what a conspiracy theory is. And she is engaging exactly and what I was talking about, only in the small, anonymous space of DCUM, where it doesn’t matter: trying to stifle politically incorrect opinions with ad hominem attacks and telling people to shut up. That’s not a conspiracy, it’s all happening publicly. |
+1 This message board is an echo chamber. A much higher percentage of parents will wait/not get their kids vaccinated than will. And no it won’t only be in red states. Many liberals will hesitate as well. |

Here is an interesting article about the various approaches to pediatric Covid vaccination in Europe:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.politico.eu/article/coronavirus-vaccine-children-ethics-science/amp/ Note that the discussion outlined here revolves around *allowing teenagers to choose* to get vaccinated, which some experts are hesitant to recommend, while here people get attacked for questioning *mandates* for even younger kids, which aren’t even on the table in other countries. I will vaccinate my kids against Covid because I will always prefer a vaccine to an infection, but as an immigrant from Europe, I do think that the US discussion on this is nuts. |
Yet most people who hesitate on their kids want all teachers to be vaccinated, pffft. |
Well, as long as the parents are vaccinated themselves, there isn’t the double standard you are trying to imply. It’s a completely different issue when it comes to kids. |
Aren’t there violent protests in Italy, the UK and Australia? |
|
Spent the day with three other families at the pumpkin patch. Everyone plans on vaccinating their kids as soon as we can. No one has any friends or other families who have hesistancy.
We all have someone w an under five kid where this vax round won’t improve their lives. |
There are no violent protests over pediatric covid vaccines in Australia. You might want to check your information sources. |
It’s cute that you are so blindly trusting. I also spent the day with a couple families from our kids’ school, and Incertainly contributed to the air that of course i will get our kids vaccinated as soon as it comes out. But no, no, i will not. But it’s none of their business and i recognize how politically controversial this all is so I just say things I expect fellow parents want to hear 🤷🏽♀️ |
| I think the legislation is for 12 and over. I think we need to support. It is the only way to lose the masks by the fall and get back the field trips, school events and all that good stuff. The DC Council is currently placing further burdens on schools, and vaccines is really the only way out. |
| i completely agree with the above pps who pointed out how illiberal and irrational the vaccine argument is in the US. I am an extremely hippie-ish, democratic, science-minded person, and whenever I try to have a conversation about the actual risk analysis of the vaccine for kids (for example, that for boys in the 12-15 age group, 1 in 10,000 of them got myocarditis -- heart inflammation, and that the risk of actually catching covid and then getting severely sick from it, in that age group, is closer to 1 in 1,000,000.), i am stared at like an anti-vaxxer. except for a few other uber rational friends -- we are stunned by the discussion here. people are so "open minded" that their brains fell out. |
| I completely agree with you but the fear around covid and children around here and the U.S. governments approach on endorsing the vaccine for 12-15 (as opposed to great Britain for example) makes the vaccine unavoidable. Scientifically speaking the myocardiosis is rare and treatable. Also parents fears of long term consequences with covid are not completely irrational either. The vaccines are the only way to return normalcy to the schools. Although better then a closed school, masks, keeping desks apart, not allowing kids to move around the classroom, no field trips, few substitute teachers - all of these have real impacts on the kids. The school testing is also mobilizing a lot of administrative resources (and the mandate has just been doubled). If we do not have a vaccine mandate the next school year may be adversely affected. |
They also aren’t even contemplating a mandate for kids. |
You do realize there are other vaccines that are required, right? |
