Why do you think it wouldn't be enforceable in public school?

You cannot kick half of DC kids (the vast majority of which based on current vaccine rates will be low SES, POC, and otherwise at risk kids) without any alternate public school option. And you similarly cannot physically force an injection on someone. It’s common sense that this will not be enforceable this school year and even next year will be very difficult though they will have better odds

LOL kids have to get vaccines to get into school. So indeed you can 'force' an injection on someone. (I support mandatory vaccines, btw)

They are fully approved. There is a big difference. The FDA EXPLICITLY said that neither safety nor efficacy has been established for the 12-17 vaccines (EUA). The same will be true for 5-11. Also, people go into a school year knowing that - you can pull and homeschool, go virtual at Friendship, or move to another state. You do not have at least the first two options and the third is likely impractical at a drop of a hat in the middle of the school year. You cannot just deprive a RIGHT without reasonable notice and ability to take other options. This is exactly why California conditioned their state wide requirement on full approval and made it only to start next school year

Sorry I meant 12-15. Safety and efficacy have been established for 16-17 and vaccines should absolutely be required for them

This. There should be no mandate for kids before full approval. We have lost our minds if we think that is ok for a virus that is of extremely low risk for kids.

I am opposed to any required EUA vaccine for young kids, especially for a disease that is not statistically shown to result in hospitalization. I do think a lot of parents will be up in arms about requiring a vaccine for under 11s right after EUA. And I do think DCPS will have to cave because the optics will be really negative for them.

And I think you are crazy. The optics for not requiring vaccines and bowing to crazy people that think kids don't get sick are nuts... People in other countries are still waiting for days for life saving vaccines...

Yeah, for adults. At the same time, experts in other countries are either not recommending the vaccine at all for healthy kids, or are recommending a single dose. Did you miss the recent NYTimes article?

Here it is:

And for the record, I will vaccinate my kids, even before it’s fully approved, although I won’t be first in line. But I don’t support a mandate for kids while it’s still under EUA.

I support showing proof of immunity, whether from having Covid or the vaccine. For unclear reasons, the CDC has been ignoring natural immunity. It’s wrong to force kids (or adults) that already have immunity to get a vaccine.

11/100,000 is a very low risk.

You think I’m crazy while many other countries are not vaccinating kids or only giving one shot? All of those public health experts are crazy to question this vaccine for kids as well? Interesting how you mention other countries but neglect to state that those waiting are adults. Get your kid vaccinated, that’s fine. I do not support a mandate for all kids.

Nah. Most people, including us, will simply not get our kids vaccinated. I will get it after sufficient data for that age group so maybe 6 months after roll out (well before next school year), but not doing it this school year. DCPS will unequivocally not be able to kick everyone who will do the same out. Mark my word- well over half of DCPS kids will not be vaccinated by January, nevertheless the Dec 15 deadline. There will be far too many to take any action

well, for some people.

Some people don't care about their kids' education.

No, but most of them do care about having their kids warehoused in a building (without paying for outside childcare) all day.

Remember you can’t say climate change, your kids will be far behind in any science class and they more at risk for covid and kidnapping .

If you won’t vax your kid please stay the f away from mine

So happy our school community is full of vaxxers and 100% of the people who spend time w (all outside now) plan to vax as soon as possible. Four kids might be as they were part of the trial. Two of this kids has a doctor parent.

If you are not a scientist please save your “I want to see the science” first. If you believed in science you would spew the BS about education you do.

Can’t wait for the inevitable push to allow kids to stay home forever but not have to get vaccinated. Because safety.

For example, if we have to rely on our disorganized pediatrician's office to make available for the shots, we'll be waiting a long time. And they'll charge us an extra $25 for the paperwork to prove it. Hoping for mass vaccination sites for the 5-11 set

They've already set up mass vax sites for the 12-17 year olds, or at least had them through the summer. I repeatedly checked on the waiting times for them at that time (based on people whining it was SO HARD to get vaccinated) and the waits were like 5 minutes or less. So it shouldn't be hard.

And yet you have a massive portion of the DC pop who has not been vaccinated and who are vocally against it

Just curious, where in DC is the massive portion of the population who are vocally against the vaccine?

No way will they kick unvaccinated kids out. The optics would be terrible and they don't want kids sitting at home the rest of the year again. Too many will be unvaccinated.
