You are not too late. The boys' tryouts will continue through Spring in most cases. Dont worry too much about what's on the various websites. I recommend that you ask your coach now to put you in touch with the TDs or coaches of the teams you are targeting to arrange a tryout. At our club that would mean that your son would come to some practices so the coach could have a chance to evaluate the level compared to the existing team. This actually happens throughout the year, not just in the spring. If your coach doesn't follow through on this for whatever reason, you should contact the DA TD and coach directly. You may not need this, but it could be helpful to Prepare a mini-resume of your son's accomplishments--a bullet pointed list of good showings by his current team and any individual awards or accomplishments, plus soccer references. You might want to watch some of the team's games beforehand to get a sense of their playing style and level. You can find the game schedules on the DA website. |
Thanks so much for this! |

Is anyone else just as cynical as me when you read someone post just how "super awesome" a particular team or group of kids is...little self-promotion of their children, no?
|
Not really. Par for the course and little to gain by raining on everyone's parade, no matter how small. People here are into their kids, we all get it. |
You're both missing the joke, which you'd only get if you had an older player who earned a Spirit offer. Spirit forgot to change the form email for the older age groups so lots of older kids got an invite to the U14 team. |
Oh that's funny! Get used to it, I'm sure that won't be the last administrative error you see from Spirit. |
Sounds like a hater mate. Must be a FCV thing |
How hard is it to make a Stoddert travel team? DD is 14 |

Who is filling the ranks of Spirit?
Loudoun, FCV, BRYC....? Combination thereof? |
Probably different mixes at the different ages. |
CCL is still playing 8v8 for 11U and 12U, but is that going to increase to 9v9 for those two age groups in 2017-18? What about other leagues? I have heard nothing in the past year about the small field size standards that were part of the birth year initiative and that were intended by US Soccer to be implemented in 2017-18.
. . . . I don't hear any news on this anywhere, but am curious if rosters may be increasing for 9v9 play next year, in CCL or elsewhere. |
Not sure who CCL would follow based on their affiliation to a state office. It's my understanding that in Maryland (including tournaments) play is already 9v9 but in Virginia it's still 8v8. I assume that CCL may be affiliated with VYSA since it hasn't made the switch yet. VYSA has not yet voted on the 9v9 play which it must approve prior to requiring those associated with it to follow. Last year they passed the birth year change with the #s on field TBD for this year. I assume it'll change to 9v9 in 17/18. |
Are you recommending to parents whose son or daughter are in the same club as the DA team? That is a U12 CYA parent asks their son's coach to ask about VDA? Or are you suggesting regardless of affiliation, a coach for let's say FPYC, would get in touch with a VDA coach about their player? As for the Curriculum Vitae you propose, are you serious? Have you actually done this? I imagine a TD or Coach for a DA team would laugh this off. A video of the player in games would be different, and I do understand why that would helpful. |
