Boundary Review Meetings

The school board will probably make those moves one at a time to decrease the likihood of them being voted out. Think of the redistricting to SLHS 20 years ago. It was a small area that was impacted, no one else.

Their mistake this time is that announced that they wanted to move kids to balance out schools and every parent group in the County was on guard. When plans were laid out, there were already organized protests and a lot of them. The loud complaining across the area scared the crap out of them.

To top it off, the Crossfield families who don’t want to move to Western are loudly complaiing and, according to one poster, meeting with Reid to explain why they should not be moved from Oakton. I would bet that Crossfield is not moved to Western, or at least not all of Crossfield.

The school board could make some smart changes, like place academies at Herndon and Lewis that people want to attend and require people pupil place into the programs. Or create Votech schools at those schools so that there is a reason for people to want to move to those schools and offering programs that might be a better fit for the population that is already there. And add full AP to all schools to stop the pupil placement. Keep IB at schools that have kids completing the IB diploma, so not Lewis and Mt. Vernon and Annandale.

Enrollment is already projected to decline. Move kids to certain under-enrolled schools without understanding why they are losing students and enrollment will decline even further.

Maybe they are finally starting to get the message that they need to attract families and not treat kids as widgets to plug a hole. Jettisoning IB at all but 1 or 2 schools would help.

Why is it the rich white ones who complain most?

Because they represent 7 PTAs.

IB needs to go completely. No requirement or need to have two advanced high school programs. It is a luxury we can no longer afford and it causes issues with transfers (either way, but mostly IB to AP). If you keep it at a few locations people will demand transportation which will come with a bill.

Is the revised map/reid recommendation posted yet? Link? If board members do amendments will the vote have to postponed?

The WSHS LBSS meeting that was not videotaped had minority, non asian or white parents making statements that they picked their schools based on them having a critical mass of high performing minority kids in attendance, and that they did not want to get rezoned to the high performing school that was slightly more white than their school.

These racist slurs against white parents are really tiring, and are clearly made by someone wandering over from the politics forum who has no connection to FCPS and its mostly majority minority schools.

Yeah.

I’m just gonna take one for the team and say it, but White-Women PTA/PTO presidents are like chihuahuas.

All bark with threats to bite.

And if they’re gonna bite they just could.

But no, they leverage their wealth and access to attorneys to stop changes in their area.

It’s sickening and needs to be regulated if not mitigated by the state.

In this particular case, though, it is literally only rich white parents that are advocating to keep Crossfield at Oakton.

No. Maybe they didn’t really mean it when they said it would be posted this evening.
