Nah, they were too busy being aghast about JLo's crotch. Who cares about the kids when you can have righteous indignation about a woman's body?

Did JLo’s skimpy outfit help the kids? Or did she perhaps politicize her performance to increase media attention to herself?

Surprised nobody commented that JLo’s daughter was wearing a fuller skirt than the other kids she pimped out in her show. Her daughter’s skirt was longer, not tight and more modest. Hypocrite.

I noticed the girls swiveled their hips and was aghast.

So you still don’t want to talk about kids in cages. Got it

Beyond inspiring woman over 50 to exercise, can anyone explain why J Lo on the stripper pole was empowering? I see how it helps promote her movie, but that's about it.

Typical anglo stereotypes of us, delivered with very poor taste.

We expected much more of two amazing artists.

No you didn’t and no you weren’t. Bc if you have followed JLo then you would know she’s been doing this since she started.

This was one of the trashiest and disgusting halftime shows ever. We won’t be watching anymore. How could stripper performances be friendly family. Shame on JLo and Shakira. Total trash!

I don't understand the Crux of this idea that it.has to be "empowering" or not. Entertainers are all just showing off their skills in whatever capacity they have them. She can do that pole stuff now and is showing it off. Not about her power or worth, just any other "look at what I can do and most people can't" kind of moment for an entertainer on stage. She might not be making any statement with her dancing, it's just the way she dances.its always been hot. This is not new.

see that's just as dumb as the Karen's getting up in arms. You don't have a valid opinion just because you are pretty. I loved it and I'm not hot.

Wtf did Shakira do that she hasn't been doing since literally 1997. She played 2 instruments and sang and danced, not to mention belly danced which is so hard learn to control your body like that (again she's been doing this since she was like 20)

Ok I had missed the halftime show and just watched it to see if it was as bad as y’all are saying. I thought it was awesome! JLo’s outfit was a bit much but honestly it was the best halftime show in years. Shakira was amazing. That’s *bellydancing* she’s doing, it’s been around for centuries. No need to clutch pearls about it. And so what if JLo was on a pole, is doing a dance that involves a pole inherently worse than a similar dance without a pole? Plus I thought “born in the USA” + a Puerto Rican flag was very clever.

I guess people thought Elvis and the Beatles were overly sexual too...

Women can wear what they want in this country. We don’t have to be modest if we choose not too.

My boys are 13 and 15. We were at a party with other tween and teen kids, no one got up and left. Why are you all teaching your boys that a women’s body is something to feel embarrassed about appreciating?

They work out hard, they are athletes that train for hours for their dance routines. Simply denigrating them as just “scantily clad women” is incredibly misogynistic.

Oh stop. Of course they can wear what they want and take the critique that comes with it. Much of what they do well was completely overshadowed by the choices they made in order to entertain millions of men with their bodies. They knew that they awere doing. The goal si get and keep viewers and get talked about. They accomplished that.

If a male performer got up there in a speedo, rubbed his crotch, gyrated, did lots of chippendale moves, and generally over sexualized a musical performance, I would feel the exact same way. It would also be a choice I would criticize and it would also accomplish the goal of getting people talking. Since women aren't as physically oriented, it might not keep women watching.

You mean like the lead singer of Maroon 5 did in last year's show? Here's the video, and he removes his shirt around 12:25:

That’s nasty too!! Why must the NFL claim to be for families. I posted this already but they donate to schools, they put programs to be role models for kids.

Not everyone is a pearl clutcher. Please. I’m Hispanic and again they look good but like pp said they made choices to sell sex as their performance. They are hot, look great and are talented. They really don’t need to pole dance, grabs their grotch to prove it. What was the tongue thing, imitating oral sex?

What?! No. It was a nod to her Lebanese roots. JC lady.

Correct, it’s called “ululating” and is common in middle eastern and some African countries. It has nothing to do with sex!

That has been happening for generation and generation in strip clubs. I don't particularly think it is all that empowering. It that is what others want for their daughters - great. Teach them to take their clothes off and pole dance and shake their bodies and simulate sex for men's enjoyment. We don't look to strip clubs as our model for female empowerment.

As someone said we don't teach boys to take off their clothes and use their bodies for women's enjoyment.

Just ask!
