The NFL cheerleaders have always bothered me. Mostly because they werk it for free, but also because they are barely covered and are on display at each game. The halftime show was fine, imo.

I went out a Google rabbit hole on that one and found out that most NFL cheerleaders are making like $1, 200 a season which is just insane.

Wow!

I wonder how much that comes out per hour. There are 16 regular season games which run approx 3 hours, plus before and after the game appearances & meet and greets. Plus non game day appearances, plus team calendar photo shoots, etc. I wonder if they are reimbursed for their beauty maintenance and gym fees?

You forgot practice/ team routine training.

I had a friend who was a wizards cheerleader and it was basically all of her free time. And she couldn't eat.

Its amazing to me how many women apply for these positions that don't pay

Our cheerleading coach in HS was a former Redskinette. She hated it. No pay. They had to still pay for the games, and they were treated like crap. Some see it as a stepping stone for a dance career.

I mean that's the thing as long as they have a lot of people willing to work for peanuts I guess there's no incentive to raise the salaries were improved conditions. it's still kind of boggles the mind when you think about how the NFL itrams aking in billions of dollars and can't be bothered to pay their cheerleaders a real salary.

I have not read all the posts but I was disgusted by the half time show. It was at 8 pm - family prime time viewing. My tween was even embarrassed for J Lo. Shakira had more stompy fun but the pole dance, crotch grabbing, mooning through g strings and hypersexualized pouts and pelvic thrusts were not appropriate for a family sports show on at 8 pm. I did not find it empowering display of feminism for my daughter to watch but found it Demeaning and objectifying. I wish they had highlighted Latino culture in more positive and creative ways.

Umm thanks for your touching concern for my psychological well being. ? I did not waste much time on this but merely responded to a question that I wish I had seen a week ago or whenever it was. It did bother me at the time but had not thought about it since. However, it does raise the question of accurate TV show ratings. Super Bowl May need to be rated PG 13 from now on ...

What you are kidding right?

Stop shaming women.

Football is violent and you let you kid watch that probably every weekend!

Racism showing through here.

Grow up and worry about football and it’s culture instead of what the ladies were wearing.

I’m sure you didn’t complain about Adam Levine last year.

Not shaming women - the opposite - not patronizing them by claiming a pseudo soft porn show was great art, empowering for women or appropriate for a family sports show.

We are a multiracial family so that mud sling is off-base.

We rarely watch football except for socially important games ... although I grew up in a football crazy culture. Strongly discouraged DS from playing football due to head injuries and leg breaks. Would never let our daughter do cheer leading as we want her playing sports herself not belittling herself for male athletes. We just wanted to celebrate a robust national tradition in a tween friendly way.

If you equate growing up with condoning soft porn by super stars at half time super bowl shows, then perhaps you would do better to examine your own maturity/ social judgment.

It is what it is y’all ain’t changing nobody’s mind about it the folks who liked will continue to think it was great the folks who didn’t like it will continue to think it wasn’t great. Is it criminal for somebody to hold a different opinion? Why are y’all so hell bent on proving the other wrong?

If you can sit here and claim you watch a violent sport that promotes violence, while screaming about family values you need a reality check. You also need to explain how you dismiss the violence, numerous beer commercials and the culture of being drunk before and during games (not to mention the culture of abuse, drugs, and rape within the NFL). You don’t get to pick and choose what you think should be family friendly when absolutely nothing about NFL football is family friendly. Also, you know nothing about cheerleading but that’s a whole other issue of ignorance.

Bc there are fools claiming NFL football is a family friendly event.

Oh good heavens ... Not hell bent on proving anyone wrong. Gave my opinion and was personally attacked for it.

There are parental guidelines for TV for a reason - some of us do not want pubescent and prepubescent children exposed to media that is basically soft porn that degrades the status and worth of women. This was a soft porn show not a family show. It was not even artistic or culturally illuminating as some of the glowing rave reviews suggested. It was not in view, appropriate for 8pm family sports show viewing ...

It is not criminal to hold a different opinion but fair labeling of content would be appreciated ...
