I guarantee that BASIS decided they couldn't afford to have an unpredictable disgruntled Mommy (with strong political opinions, strong Right-turning Libertarian) be the face of BASIS DC. Neither. Use your head. Again, she's putting her kids into the school, she has her own "school reform" agenda, and one can only assume that BASIS would play into that as a demonstration of success. The suggestion that she's "walking away" defies all logic. We get it, you don't like Mary, and apparently you have nothing better to do than sit around imagining whatever failure for her, as opposed to anything constructive or productive. Get a grip and move on. If you don't like BASIS, and don't like Mary, fine, just move on and ignore it. The rest of us have no need for this continual nonsense from you. |

There are a lot of stakeholders at BASIS who are not happy with how things are shaping up there. We aren't going to just move on and ignore it. Many people are going to criticize BASIS. Get over it. |

@22:20, 22:10, whoever - for all I know, could be more than one poster, or could be one poster's sock puppets as suggested earlier. I don't know, and frankly, I don't really care.
Likewise, you do realize that there may be more than one poster here who is supportive of Mary and BASIS? I know there is, because I've seen the posts. Bottom line is, if you are so concerned about BASIS, if you think it's such a lousy school, then the answer is simple, don't send your child there. There are lots of other choices. And frankly, one could do a whole lot worse than BASIS. You want to talk stakeholders - the primary stakeholders are the students and parents. The ones who have been involved and tracking BASIS are fine with how things are going. I would however wager that you are not one of those, and that you have some other issue. Since 22:10/whoever brings up taxpayers (again revealing the suggestion that you probably aren't really a prospective parent), everyone here on this message board knows damn well that there are much bigger taxpayer problems to deal with throughout DCPS and the rest of the DC school system deserving far more attention. There's thread after thread all over this message board highlighting problems in the system far worse than whatever your beef is. |

Of course there are many posters who support Mary and BASIS. We aren't trying to shut them up. You're the one trying to shut down any criticism of anything BASIS.
Who knows if it's going to be a "lousy school" or if "one could do a lot worse than BASIS" because the school isn't even open yet. What we do know is that the outspoken founder is leaving so she can spread the BASIS brand like wildfire all across America. She says so herself, in that email someone posted. We also know she's leaving before the school has even opened. That's concerning. If you can't see that, you're a little too blinded by your boosterism. |

Um, seems to me you are too late to be backpedaling on this one, as it's already been suggested it's going to be a lousy school, and yes, before it's even started, this suggestion is being made. Talk about shrill - here you and your cohorts are the ones going on with ominous hysterics about "stakeholders and taxpayers should be concerned" and "oh, my God, this will spread across America" as though Mary and BASIS constitute the single biggest threat to undermine education in our entire lifetime. Holy crap. Talk about trying to shut something down. Seems you have your own agenda, to shut Mary and BASIS down. And, you've been doing this without any meaningful details or specificity about anything, either. It's all been based on nothing more robust than "I heard somewhere that she's mean." "Um, I heard from somebody that she didn't like the job Ross was doing". Wow. Basically, "Oh my God. She must be the Devil incarnate. And, I know so, because um, well, I have this vague, um, nonspecific rumor." "We know why she's leaving" - yet all of those "I heard" and "we know" proclamations have proven to be dead wrong thus far. Posting rumor, innuendo, constant needling - yet without any substance. You sound like the folks who kept insisting the world was flat and that the moon landings were faked. Like I said, get a grip. It all looks quite ridiculous. |

Maybe you missed some details. Mary herself said she is taking the new job to spread BASIS like wildfire across America. These are her words. This is her stated goal.
Otherwise, PP, YOU are scrambling. You want to pretend that there is one person with some agenda to shut BASIS down. Paranoid, much? There are many of us who are concerned about the situation at BASIS. And because you apparently are hard of hearing and unable to actually address serious issues and you want to pretend that some things are unspecific rumor. Hear this. These are the facts. From Mary herself. She is leaving BASIS DC to take her brand national before her DC school even opens. Those are the facts. You can pretend that BASIS is some incredible school guaranteed to be successful in DC, but, guess what? You'd be wrong. Because it isn't even open yet. If you are pedaling some awesome education at the hands of BASIS before it even opens, then it is you, sir, who are spreading rumour and innuendo. The only way you can hope to challenge anyone who thinks differently than you, even the flat earthers, is with solid facts that support your position. Sadly, you don't have those facts because your school is not open. Talking about getting a grip. You are both deluded and apparently oblivious to the arguments that honestly challenge you. And leave the hyperbole at the door. If you believe in and can articulate a position, you don't need to resort to made up accusations such as "Devil incarnate". You know no one said that. How does it make any sense for Mary to let BASIS DC crash and burn if she needs to have the success of BASIS DC under her belt as a selling point if she ever hopes to "spread BASIS all over like wildfire"? You really haven't thought this through, as your scenario makes zero sense. And what "serious" issues have been raised? What specifics? Posters here have suggested their own speculations, such as "BASIS will keep AA students out" - nonsense, "BASIS will not have any special needs students" - nonsense, and lots of "I heard Mary's mean" and "I heard..." stuff. Lots of speculation, lots of rumors, but very little "serious" let alone factual. Now THERE's the smoke being blown, and it's all yours. The only thing I have ever done is question it - and for all my questioning, never has anything REAL materialized. You want to talk honesty? I'm not seeing any coming from you. Yeah, I'm oblivious alright - because I don't honor or respect rumor and speculation. I respect facts, and so far there haven't been any. The hyperbole is ridicule. If you don't like it then stop posting things that are worthy of ridicule. |

The only thing that seems to be missing throughout is any actual facts, details, or substance to the resident out-of-control rumor mill, er, I mean "stakeholder", with it's many "serious" concerns. Crickets chirping... So no, you didn't really miss anything. |

Wow what a friggin mess.
DC parents speculating instead of working together. Hmm not really a huge surprise, I have urged friends of mine to stay at Latin 1) Because recess is important 2) This Mary character sounds like Sarah Palin on steariods But she won't be there soo.... The "friggin mess" is that still no fact-based "serious concerns" have surfaced, nothing but rumors and insinuations - even after the challenge to step forward and lay some facts out there has been sitting in this thread for months - still nothing but the same nonsense.
