DC United Academy - aa strong academy or not

How would a kid who hasn't been in a stellar academy elsewhere know where they are is less than stellar?

Same way they find out about anything, they talk amongst themselves.

Hmm maybe because they don't live under a rock and they talk to other high level players about their experiences elsewhere. Just a hunch...Also, the DCU kids go to the other academy facilities when they travel and are like DAMN. What we have is garbage compared to this.

Thats impressive that the academy games at Philly and NY are at better facilities than Segra Stadium 🏟 where Loudon United plays USL home games.

Yeah, and it starts pretty young. Kids look up to older players and if some of those have gone through DCUA and are no longer there for some reason, they’re pretty honest about their experiences with the kids. I wouldn’t have thought anything amiss about DCUA had my kid not been talking amongst themselves

Key word, Loudoun United field. Or VA Revolution field. If they can't get those, Soccer Plex. The first 2 stadiums are pretty nice though. But it's not DC Uniteds field.

They play at Segra Field Stadium.
Is that a crappy facility or not?

If you're getting your soccer development knowledge and information from your 14 year old, you shouldn't be commenting on soccer.

No from parents of former DCUA players. I like to verify the info my kid is getting. Is that ok? Or nope to that too? Just from Mr. Verified facts?

I don't know about PP, I was pointing out that DCU doesn't have their own facility like every other academy and get kicked around between 3 different fields.

No one said anything about where they play their home games. Name on the field doesn't matter. You're missing the point. We are talking.about the FACILITIES overall. When the kids walk into say, Atlanta United campus, they know they are in a class facility. It's obvious. Same with red bulls, union Montreal, Toronto, (insert any other academy besides DCU here) It's like walking into a Ritz Carlton coming from a Red Rood Inn. Or even worse coming from having nothing. DCU doesn't have a facility at all so it's not a hard conclusion to draw. Playing games at a USL field is pretty cool actually but it doesn't overcome the fact that DCU has no facility for the players. That by itself is a travesty. Google MLS academy facilities or watch videos on YouTube. The difference in what DCU has and others is MASSIVE. FC Cincinnati is even ahead and they are a new club.

All these suburban soccer dads with the brooks brothers and golfdom matching outfits talking about how pretty facilities need to be to produce top level professionals

In real football world, the professional leagues in south america and europe have many top tier players who trained and played all or most their lives at below average non-frills fields and facilities.

Exactly.

This facility issue is actually a SUBSTANTIAL one. One, not so talked about, issue with DCU not having its own facility is the health and well being of the kids in injury situations (both preventative and recovery). Football is a physical sport and injuries happen all the time. Better academies have training rooms on site, with actual equipment, that aid with recovery and prevention. DCU of course does not have this. So, on the injury prevention side of football, DCU is absolutely no where with no training facilities for the academy. On the recovery side, they are also no where, with again, no facilities for the academy. When injuries happen, time is often times paramount in how a player recovers and how quickly the doctors or physios can act. In a sport where your body is the product, not having training rooms on site with equipment is a MAJOR red flag. Especially if you have pro ambitions. Even high schools have training rooms!

What happened with your DS at dcua when he got injured this season?

Don't know who that is, but what's said is factual, or you don't know football outside your McLean bubble

A lot of emotional griping and piling on here with people being liberal with the truth and obvious exaggerations mixed in with a non relevant outdated fact here and there.

If your kid hasn't been at the dcu academy within the past 2 years or left dcua for a high rated academy internationally, you're posting hearsay and gossip.

People with serious academy level kids don't care about 99.5% of the entitlement and spoiled privilege whining here from people who have nothing to do with that level of youth soccer development commitment.

If your kid is good enough to be chosen as one of the few at dcua, but you don't want to take your kid there,
go elsewhere.
Free country.

If your kid was at dcua and it wasn't the right fit or they underperformed or lacked the proper mentality and were cut, then move on with your life.

Or is this something your therapist recommended?

That was 20 years ago. Sorry to tell you. Now, if you're good, you're going to a better academy with facilities in all of those countries. Just like players were smoking in the locker room in the 80s... Times have changed.

You can type anything you want. Doesn't make it accurate.
How many academy facilities that produce top division professionals from Serbia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Croatia,Czechia, Uruguay, Brazil are you personally familiar with?

You think they all look like Bayern Munich academy because you're ignorant.
