DP. They redistricted kids at Spring Hill and Colvin Run who live in single-family homes west of Tysons from McLean to Langley in 2021. All those kids lived closer to McLean than to Langley as well. Of course there are alternatives that needn't involve moving the remaining Tysons island from McLean to Langley. They could move the Timber Lane island from McLean to Falls Church and "bridge" the Tysons island by reassigning the small area bounded by 495, 123 and the Toll Road (includes the Spring Gate Apartments) from Marshall to McLean. McLean would then get some more capacity relief, but without any attendance islands," which are apparently the greatest threat known to modern civilization. |
Once again, if your kid’s away game is closer than their home game, then don’t be surprised if your home gets re-zoned. |
My guess: They want to adjust Lewis and Herndon. They will claim it is because of distance. But, once they start, many families will be bumped to a greater distance out of the current school communities. They do not realize what they are reaping. |
Lewis and Herndon are opposites in some ways. They'd be moving kids who live closer to other schools to Lewis and moving kids who live closer to Herndon than their current schools to Herndon. But one suspects the School Board is counting on the parents in those areas to cancel each other out when they propose changes. It will create more noise, not that they listen anyway. |
Yikes, you realize how many kids fall into that naive principle, right? |
Insane that we put developers over citizens in this county. School board grifters are going to grift I guess. |
No one who was on the School Board when developers got favorable treatment decades ago to get certain areas assigned to Langley is still around, so the current members aren’t going to think of themselves as “grifters” or lose any sleep unwinding them now, if that’s what they decide to do. |
They can consider themselves whatever they want. We all know they are hypocritical grifters from the same party that gave the developers more of our money only to pull the bait and switch. They should move their own kids’ schools as a sign of their devotion to the changes. |
We don’t all know this. What party controlled county government and the then-appointed School Board decades ago when developers got the SB to assign little pockets of Herndon and Reston to Langley? Could have been back in the Jack Herrity days when Republicans were in charge. |
You don't unde4stand. No building deal, no taxes. It made the neighborhoods more attractive to buyers and they were willing to pay a premium. Still are. |
Hanley was chair of BOS 8n 1995.

So no tax revenues from properties that aren’t zoned to Langley? You really do think you’re the center of them universe. |
DP. Seems like you should probably learn what contributed to the demand for a home. Your statement shows a real lack of understanding. |
If we weren’t concentrating the poverty at certain schools the tax revenues from those schools’ catchment areas would be higher.
It’s amusing when people claim to be making arguments based on economics, but are really just revealing their preference for schools without poor kids. |
