I honestly think that if this crime happened exactly how the prosecution alleges it happened, this was about way more than him not wanting his wife around anymore so that it would be easier for him financially and logistically compared to divorce. Like, he planned this out meticulously for a long time, and spent 30 thousand dollars (not to mention the weapons, the gun range time, the new phones, and other incidentals) to carry it out. It is almost like the motive for the crime was just doing the crime itself, for fun. As opposed to getting rid of his wife- which he could have done for way cheaper, and way easier, and with way less blood and gore and without having to murder a second person in the process. It is terrifying.

And without involving his dumb au pair. So many faster and easier ways to kill someone.

With everything he did to plan this, it's pretty crazy he involved two big X factors... another adult male with weapons and the low-IQ au pair. Even if this plan worked flawlessly, he's still killed a man (albeit in apparent defense of his wife) which would mean an investigation and the possibility of needing a lawyer and being suspended from work... so how on earth could that be logistically easier than a regular divorce? This must have been both about the brutality and the wanting to see if he was smart enough to get away with this.

Had he quietly sold his house and moved away, he probably would have gotten away with it. Fairfax cops are lazy.

No. The story they gave was ridiculously unbelievable from the start. Even if they somehow got rid of all of their own electronic communications, they still would have had Joe's.

I thought the prosecution raised some unanswered questions about this. Juliana testified that she spoke to Joe on the phone and he commented on her accent. I'm not sure why they wanted to elicit that. How did Joe then not realize that Christine was a different person when he arrived in person?

I haven’t been listening to the testimony but my guess is that basically as soon as he walked into the bedroom he knew something was off and I think he was shot pretty much right thereafter. I don’t think the sex scenario had even started — there’s no indication that she was bound, for instance.

No, as soon as Joe pulled up, Juliana testified that she called Brendan who had to drive from McDonald’s which was several minutes from the house. So he was in that bedroom for at least several minutes. Brenden had to go home, enter enter through the basement and go up two flights of stairs. Also, they found Christine’s pajamas ripped or cut but I guess we don’t know if Joe did that or Brendan. I don’t recall Juliana talking about that.

When I was watching JPM's testimony, I noticed a discrepancy between the story the child told to police right after this happened and what she said on the stand. The child said that JPM woke her up and got her ready that morning, which was unusual because her mother usually would. However, on the stand JPM said that Brendan woke the little girl up and brought her to her that morning. I know it's a small detail, but I wonder why she would lie about that.

Child could easily have meant, her dad woke her up and brought her to JPM and then JPM did all the morning routine stuff and when she said "JPM got me up instead of mommy" she meant "JPM did my morning routine instead of mommy". Wasn't she like, 4 years old? And something traumatic was happening?

Wow! Without a clear timeline and vagueness surrounding what really happened, I think there's reasonable doubt. Too bad OJ isn't around to go looking for the real killer.

I think it's most likely that Joe cut her clothes.. wasn't that part of the plan? lets face it, if Brendan had cut her clothes off, he would have screwed it up.

I think the blood on the interior of the closed backpack is a big point.

I would have preferred the prosecution spend more time on the backpack than the wet spot on JP's bed.

The defense mentioned that he intends to voir dire his first witness before the jury comes in. I'm guessing that's big mamma?

might get spicy if the prosecution goes into the snitches get stitches statement. gets messy with the search warrant on big mammas phone and the attorney's phone.

There are dozens of easier ways to kill your wife and get away with it. Sadly, men do it all the time. He planned this weird complex thing because he thinks he’s a criminal mastermind. It’s sort of surprising that he didn’t realize the au pair wouldn’t be smart enough to cover … she’s lucky she wasn’t the next one with a knife in her throat.
