Have you read "Framed" in the LA Times

Anonymous
Have you seen this? It's riveting and more than a little crazy. It's a true story that happened / has been happening in Irvine CA over the past 5 years. The subtitle is "She was the PTA mom everyone knew. Who would want to harm her?"

It's been on my mind today, as the last chapter of the article was just published.

I read that yesterday! Holy crap it's crazy! Who would do that!? She's so lucky the police officer who responded was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

I actually saw part of it on Dr Phil (shh! my secret vice). CRAZY.

I don't think you can ever underestimate how lucky the framed woman was that the police officer sensed something was off. This could have gone very, very badly.

Synopsis: Uber-SAHM is president of the PTA and incredibly involved as a volunteer in the school, running part of the aftercare program. One day, one of the 6 year olds was inadvertently left on the playground (and locked out of school) for about 5 minutes. Was finally brought to the front of school and his parent was informed. Parent demanded to know what happened and PTA mom apologized and said something about how the boy was sometimes slow and it was just a mistake, but he was OK. crazy mom took "slow" to mean intellectually challenged, not just moves slowly. Crazy mom did some normal things - demanded changes (which were instituted), but also some crazy things - demanding PTA mom be banned from school, sued crazy mom, etc. Lawsuit was dismissed. Important note- crazy parents were both lawyers.

Whew, I am not summarizing well. there were a lot of details. Exactly a year later, police receive a call saying some one was driving erratically in school parking lot and may have drugs. Policeman responds to call, finds drugs in PTA mom's car. Does not arrest her - questions her. Something seems off. PTA mom IDs two people who have it in for her - a slightly deranged man well known to police and the lawyer family. Police investigate, and lo and behold, find out the call was made from a phone by lawyer man's office. And video footage looks like him.

Tons of crazy details. Bottom line - lawyers planted drugs in PTA moms car! Both disbarred, mom serves a couple of months in jail, dad does too. Never clear exactly who did what and why (Other than crazy).

Definitely weird and scary.

Dammit man! That is so true.

Wow. Fascinating. I remember when it came out in the news but it's so crazy and complex that with the regular news articles it was hard to follow. Especially since Jill Easter changed her name. Maybe I missed it in the article, but she still has custody of her kids? That scares me.

Very interesting. One thing that fascinated me is how the city devoted dozens of cops and so many law enforcement resources to looking into the planting of drugs. It felt like a different country from living in DC and the police responses we get here.

Yes, the main takeaway from this story is the oppression of non-whites.

The Easters are white too and they certainly didn't off easy.

These days, for some people, race is the point of every story.
