Your engagement ring

How old were you and your fiancé when you got engaged?
How many carats was the ring?
Did you upgrade? Why?

My husband changed the setting. I picked the new setting, and it wasn't expensive. His idea. The original setting was plain and gold
and he even mentioned when he proposed that he wanted me to pick one. I never brought it up because it didn't really matter that much to me. He brought me to a jewelry store about 2 years later and told me to pick a new setting for my birthday.

I would never ever update the diamond itself. It's a good one and that's a waste of money.

30 and 33.

No idea, it was an antique we bought on Etsy for $150, the rock is tiny.

Nope, I knew I wouldn't wear it much as I don't like larger jewelry, I just wear my wedding band. I'm happy with the wedding band I have, no desire for a fancier engagement ring.

30. Did not want an e-ring (told DH I would wear a ring when he did and not before). He bought me a set of sapphire solitaires (earrings and pendant). I've considered having the pendant made into a ring and maybe changing the earring's settings, but I would not change any of the stones.

3 carat tw. 2 carat center stone with 4 .25 baguettes.

It's a family heirloom and I won't be upgrading. I also don't want to support the awful diamond industry.

We upgraded the wedding bands at year 12. (We meant to at year 10, but we're slow . Our "upgrade" wasn't fancy either -- we went from cheap thin plain gold bands to more solid and substantial plain gold bands. I thought about upgrading my engagement ring at the same time, but realized I'm really not a diamond solitaire type of person. It didn't go with the thicker band, either, so I stopped wearing it. Now we're in year 22, and I'm thinking about getting a solitaire of my birthstone. But we might upgrade the bands again at year 25, so we'll see.

I've never even thought about upgrading. The ring is beautiful and I love it.

Family heirloom so would never upgrade the diamond, but originally chose a really "blingy" setting and would like something more simple. My tastes have changed, and I feel self-conscious! Downgrade?
