I have about 20 lbs to lose to become healthy. I have been on a 1800 calorie diet for two days only and each day I have a terrible headache and I'm lightheaded. I also feel like I don't have energy to do much. Is this normal? Will it pass? I have had Greek yogurt and fish for protein yesterday but still feel like crap.

| You shouldn't feel bad, in my experience as a (sadly) "professional" dieter. What are you eating overall? If that's the "only" protein you had, that could be the problem. And are you getting enough hydration? |
| How much water are you drinking? |
| How many calories were you eating before? 1800 is good for weightloss, especially if you are exercising. Drink loads of water, and eat high quality foods. Get nuts in your diet. |
| I would gain weight quickly on 1800 calories/day. How many were you eating before? |
| You had about 40g of protein yesterday. Eat the damn protein. |
| Are you get many healthy fats? Things like avocado, nuts and olive oil not only help you feel full, but they significantly help you absorb nutrients. Protein is also key of course. |
| I get headaches when I'm dehydrated. If you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated. |
|
Maybe works maybe not but worth a try.

Drink more water, yes. What kind of food are you eating? If you cut back the carbs and get protein and healthy fat within your calorie limit, you'll feel better.
I don't think of 1800 calories as a low-calorie diet, unless maybe you're a pro athlete. I have to stick to 1000 or I gain weight, sadly. |
|
Well, on a usual day I consume around 2500 and up calories so obviously I have a lot of calorie cutting and 1800 seems hard to me.
I do think I need to up my protein but I don't eat red meat and mostly eat fish. I will have a couple eggs tonight. And yes, I am drinking lots of water. I also wonder if I'm feeling so bad because I haven't had much sugar. I usually have a sugary coffee drink and then a donut. |
That sounds about right. I currently eat about 2500 calories most days to maintain, but I also workout (run, weights, interval training) every day. I'm 5'3" and an athletic 130lbs - but I used to be much heavier. 1800 is a good number if you want to lose weight, also provided you are getting activity on most days. Drink more water. Get more healthy fats from nuts and avocado. Get your sugar fix from fresh fruit, and eat lots of it (water + fiber will help keep you full, plus chock full of fresh vitamins and natural sugars). |

It might be sugar withdrawal. If you've cut out caffeine as well that could be causing your symptoms.
|
| It's sugar withdrawal! You'll feel better in a few days. Have a sweet potato. |
| Carb flu; it will go away |
