Switching back to my maiden name

I've been divorced for going on 3 years and I am strongly considering switching back to my maiden name. I'm not sure why though. I think I'm doing it out of spite. Do I need a legitimate reason? Is spite sufficient, lol

The only reason you need is because you WANT to. That isn't spite. Why would you hold onto his name??

I'm married and I have a different last name from my kids. NBD. Teachers at school only every call parents "Mom" and "Dad" anyway. My kids have considered taking my name.

+1. I didn't change my name when I got married and we're expecting our first. The kid will have my husband's last name and it's a nonissue. My sister is divorced and remarried with a child from both marriages so no matter what she did (short of giving the kids her name) one of them wasn't going to share a last name with her. Also a nonissue.

Yep, kids have his last name and I actually prefer his last name over mine. I've never liked my maiden name. Based on those two reasons I know that the only reason I would be changing it back is out of spite/principal, which seem like petty reasons. If he were to remarry I would promptly change it though

I would change it back. I have no idea why women change their names in the first place, I have no need to feel like my husband's property. I have a kid, no big deal to have different last names. Change it OP. It would depress me to have an ex's name. What are you going to do when he remarries?? Ick, you'll be the ex Mrs. Ex.

Pick a whole NEW last name.
