I don't understand this excuse? If Melania originally told the speechwriter that she admires these remarks of Mrs. Obama, doesn't that indicate that Melania knew they were Mrs. Obama's words when she spoke them at the convention? How does this help things?

Yeah, I'm pissed that Melania cannot apologize or take responsibility for something she did. I know that Trump cannot do that, but she is a separate person and could do the right thing. But it might get her divorced, so better to play it safe and blame her friend.

It's really neither Melania nor the family friend's fault, because if Trump had a vetting process, it wouldn't have happened. He's too good for that, though, and it hasn't hurt him yet, just his wife. Not very nice of him.

It is even better than that. It sounds like Melania actually read the phrases to the speechwriter over the phone. She obviously knew they were Michelle's words.
