I don't think all Republicans are horrible people but I also think almost all Republican political actions are horrible

How can I make sense of this?

I think it is a mix of things: they always have been republicans/don’t want to believe how horrible the party is now, are not well informed/educated, don’t get or care are things on a large scale.

My mom is one of the most loyal, hardworking, will drop anything to help a friend, giving of her time to make sure town clubs are well run, etc - she definitely voted for Trump. She LOVES my Mexican bff. I finally broke down and told her that he is a DACA recipient. She literally cried at the thought of him getting deported. Not sure if that will change the larger picture for her.

She is very compassionate on an individual basis but has a hard time expanding that to the larger scale.

This is one of many LEGAL ways to become a citizen.

Cudos to your mom. She recognizes the horrible situation, but still capable to recognize right from wrong. The proper legal way for your boyfriend is to follow the proper procedure for immigration. You can marry him and he will become a naturalized citizen in a lawful way.

That’s not the way naturalization works.

For people here illegally, it's very difficult or impossible to get citizenship that way.

Have you read the article you posted? It says harder. Yes, legal ways are always HARDER. It is easier to steal Cartier watch than work hard for it. It is harder to drive within the speed limit. Lawful ways are always harder.

As to the pp, if he boyfriend haven't committed any violations of law, other than coming to us illegally, it is not the hat hard to legalize through marriage.

Did you read the article? Much harder, if not impossible. You can try to do it right and still get deported. And no, legal ways are not always harder. Stealing an expensive watch is actually pretty difficult and dangerous. It's pretty easy to obey the speed limit. Not any harder than speeding really. Enforcement is the problem. That's the problem for illegal immigration too. A problem that a wall won't solve and Trump has no clue how to do.

NO!!!

The GOP base, especially in rural areas, often gets its news ONLY from the rightwing press.

The rightwing media is NOT telling conservatives what's going on.

The GOP base is brainwashed because the rightwing press lies to them.

My post is sincere. I think the modern GOP is basically evil so I am having a hard time understanding how someone can still be a Republican if they are a decent person.

Run!!!

Remember what mamma always said: Only hang out, date, marry, work with, socialize with, school with people exactly like you! You are the chosen people, everyone else is not.

No need to tolerate people who openly accept massive lies and corruption. People who foster fear and hate. Call them out. Shun them. Don’t let them ever think it’s acceptable.

I am pretty sure that the kind people who OP referred to are not associating with people who have anger management issues. You need to seek professional help.

I highly doubt the Trump supporters would seek help for their anger management issues. They love to hate.

It’s really hard to imagine how deep the lie bubble is unless you’ve lived in a red area.

Here in the DC area you get exposed to all sorts of news. It’s very hard to completely avoid truthful media. Here, if you’re a Republican you’re a gullible fool.

But in red areas, many good people believe what Fox says. It’s very hard to relate unless you have lived there or have family who are brainwashed by Fox.

It's amazing how gullible you are. You live in the ultimate bubble but, like the fish unaware what water is, you don't even notice.

97% people in DC voted Dem, everyone listens to the same news and holds the same political views.

In most of the country there's much more diversity and exposure to different views and news.

How are Republicans brainwashed via identity politics, to support policies that only benefit billionaires?

Fox: owned by Murdoch
WSJ: owned by Murdoch
Daily Caller: funded by Koches
Breitbart: funded by Mercers
Daily Wire: funded by Wilkeses
Reason: funded by Koches
NY Post: owned/funded by Murdoch
DC Examiner: owned/funded by Anschutz
Free Beacon: owned/funded by Singer
Prager "U": funded by Wilkes
NRATV: funded by rightwing billionaires
Sinclair TV: owned by the Sinclair Smith billionaire family

This is how Americans are brainwashed. That stuff is propaganda, top to bottom.

Interesting question.

Again, the irony. It's clear you either haven't been reading this thread or have no idea what irony means.

+1
Exactly. DC is the quintessential liberal bubble. It makes me laugh when people like the PP talk about others being brainwashed. Liberals in DC, NYC, etc. are their own special kind of cult.
