Wow. If you cannot understand that dropping the initials over time could save lots of money, you really just don't have any common sense and that is a shame. Much of the school already uses just "Stuart". And, just because people thought it was a foolish expenditure of funds does not make them neo-confederates. You got what you wanted--the taxpayers will pay to change the name of a school. I guess you never learned: "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me." |
How much has the NAACP raised and contributed to pay for this? |
Have Sandy Evans or Pat Hynes or Janie Strauss made a contribution? |
Is there a place to see the total funds raised? I've only seen it in news reports. |
It is over $10,000 now. https://www.fcps.edu/justice |
Good. At this rate, they should have the money in about three years. |
It would be kind of idiotic to make any projections based on donations to a site that went live so recently. |
I would kind of expect the early days to pull in the most funds. But, then if your big spenders produce, it won't matter. |
That is hard to say. Some might want to see the Superintendent's implementation plan, scheduled for delivery in December, first. Others tend to make charitable contributions towards year-end. Still others might want to see some of the bigger donations come in first. And there may be some who'll wait until the school is actually reopened as Justice HS to give. |
Right. I'm sure that is what they will do. |
Has an email been sent saying the donation link is up and running? Maybe people don't know it's up. |
It's been in the newspapers and on television. Who do you think should get the email? Julianne Moore and Bruce Cohen? The Stuart community who wanted to keep the name--do you really think they are going to contribute? I'm guessing the Sandy Evans and Pat Hynes have already contributed whatever they plan to give. Do you really think that many people will contribute? There's been no increase since yesterday afternoon--maybe, it is not updated on weekends. My prediction: unless their Hollywood friends give, they will not reach $100k-or anywhere near it. The "changers" ad hoc committee insisted that there would be donations. Where are they? |
If Moore and Cohen don't each donate at least $50K they will go down as some of the biggest Hollywood hypocrites in history. |
There was mention in the emails sent to current FCPS families about the names to be put forward that there would be a link for donations in the future. I think sending to the same group would be a good start. I would think everyone would support sending that email if we are all interested in keeping the costs of the change as low as possible. A reminder with a link and a statement that it counts as a charitable donation, especially at this time of the year, can't hurt. May not help, but it's a cheap way to try to get funding. |
FX will simply syphon off more of my money for this. Take away the IB and there would be funds. But that is money that never should have been spent.
