If JLG is working on the problem indirectly, she should be explaining the steps she is taking either in her monthly newsletter, coming to ANC meetings or responding directly to residents. JLG is responding now but not in a way that I feel is helpful (other may disagree). And, if she can't solve the problem, she needs to explain in detail what is preventing her and the council as well as explaining what steps she and the council are planning to take.

UP until now, many residents feel LG hasn't provided the level of support or engagement to fixing the problem of DC funded slum lords controlling apartment buildings that are crime hot zones.

While some Ward 4 residents support JLG and her feel she has been a great councilwomen, this view is by no means universal. I encourage voters to dig a little deeper into JLG track record at addressing Ward 4 concerns to see if her approach and her priorities align with their concerns.

It's the same group of people, I recognize the names. They did this with the snow clearing too. As if the councilmember was going to somehow direct the mayor in how to clear the streets. But the level of vitriol is exactly the same.

I think they're operating in this bubble where they think they're winning something, but the more they rant, the less credible they are.

I live in Ward 4 and wish I could get a link to this group.

Why? Not enough drama here?

If you are seeking drama, that's on you. I am an actual constituent who would like to have access to my councilmember.

Through a neighborhood email list? That might be one of the worst ways to "have access".

the email group/groups are for residents of Crestwood and 16th Street Heights in Ward 4. Great way to exchange information about neighborhood events, including ANC meetings, as well as updates on crime, etc. Never any drama until very recently. Neighbors are worried about crime in the neighborhood, much of it linked to slumlord buildings. Reach out to your ANC rep to see how you can get your name added.

There was quite a bit of drama and finger pointing at Janeese about a shooting in the neighborhood. Some very indignant residents blaming Janeese. Turns out someone shot themselves (non-fatal) and MPD relayed that information at the appropriate time.
"...stated he has mental anguish and we provided him and his family resources last night for treatment."

The people piling on Janeese there have no credibility.

I think that neighbors are concerned about multiple shootings that have involved children.

Taste of their own medicine. I remember when Janesse was running against Brandon, one of her staff members had an Excel sheet with all the shootings in the neighborhood, and he would send it to the Petworth listserv after every shooting. Once Janesse won, those emails stopped. What didn’t stop were the shootings.

As a JLG constituent, I can testify to how utterly unresponsive she is. I never get a reply to any request or comment. I will not be voting for her.

I'm a JLG constituent as well and while I will not provide the direct topic of my complaint as she's well aware, and I may be ousted, she has been non responsive to the facts I shared she doesn't want to face the truth. Her policies are laughable btw.

Ward 4 has seen an uptick in shootings over the past month with multiple kids getting shot. Neighbors are worried and frustrated, which has culminated in some tense email exchanges. While JLG has support in Ward 4, there are a large number of residents who have concerns about JLG. For years some of these residents have raised concerns about crime, especially around slumlord buildings but have felt their concerns were ignored. Below is summary of some of the accusations and concerns raised in the email thread. It has been active, so this might not reflect everything said or include all perspectives. Apologies! But feel free to add your own thoughts and opinions.

This past week JLG has finally responded directly on the list serve talking about how she prioritizes the needs of residents and that she is working to make the area safe. Some involved neighbors pushed back asking for specific details. JLG staff listed all the limitations they face in combating slumlords but they would be happy to provide information and resources so that residents could file complaints, and requests for information, etc. ( somebody chime in if I misinterpreted the email). The response? A neighbor pointed out that it is the job of ELECTED OFFICIALS to fix problems, not request that neighbors volunteer their time and energy to fix systemic problems. It escalated from there including concerns that some comments were racist. A JLG staff member wrote that they would no longer engage with certain individuals because they felt disrespected and because the tone of the email was unprofessional.

I’m voting for McDuffie the crime dog. That is my main issue. I think all the candidates would stand up to Trump and fight for DC’s autonomy. I don’t want to hear about more kids getting shot, or four wheelers taking over or smash and grab robberies.

Another shooting today and she just ignores it.

McDuffie is taking money from the slumlords that people are complaining about to Lewis George. I want what you're smoking if you think he's going to do anything about it.

I love how someone emailed that within minutes of the shooting happening as if she's supposed to pop out of the gun behind the bullet.

Where's MPD? Where's the mayor? I remember Vincent Gray visiting after a shooting (not that it actually helped anything).
